We loved Portugal with the kids! So much exploring to do, was safe, and incredibly affordable.

We have two kids that we travelled Vietnam and Thailand with for 4 weeks. Then Sri Lanka for 4 weeks. Heading to Croatia and Greece next. Both previous trips were amazing but Sri Lanka was a bit more “primitive” in some ways than Vietnam and Thailand and might be a lot for a first trip with kiddos if you are planning to move around the country. Don’t get me wrong though Sri Lanka is amazing and I’d go back in heartbeat!!!

I took my daughter to China when she was 9 and she loved it! At 12 she did Peru and The Galapagos including trekking the Inca Trail and Rainbow Mountain. At 15 we did 5 weeks in Africa and Europe. At 16 we went to Chile and Argentina trekking in Patagonia and hung out with Penguins in Ushuaia. Along with lots of camping, road trips, and sunny North American destinations. Kids love it all!

we did crazy Europe tour in ten days. I wouldn't recommend our pace! we had our reasons
. France - Bordeaux and vineyards for dad, great time canoeing and swimming down dordogne river. Atlantic coast for me - used to holiday there as a kid. great to show kids ocean and waves can be warm. flew onto Milan. stopped into Pisa (kid 2 choice), Tuscany (dad), hiked cinque terra (me),swam in the Med, drove to Venice (kid 1), overnight train to Paris - AWESOME - best part of trip as far as kids were concerned. Paris - Eiffel Tower, Notre dame, montmatre, cafe culture. flew direct back from there. we had to visit the structures the kids had built models of in grade 3!!

If you really like to adventure we have taken our kids to both Guatemala and Belize when they were that age. Lots to do there! Feel free to message me if you consider either of them.

Buy local! Dog sledding in the Yukon. We did it with our kids when they were young. Best trip ever!
Sherry
We did South Africa with my grandkids at that age in 2018. They loved the safari in Krueger, Ado etc.

We did a 10 month round the world trip with our (then) 9 year-old. Highlights for our kid included: Songkran on Koh Phangnan in Thailand (Thai new year/giant water fight held in April), spending a month on Gili Air (tiny Indonesian Island with no cars, great snorkeling), Legoland Malaysia, eating street food everywhere. Japan was great, he loved Tokyo and Nara, plus sushi on conveyor belts. Portugal and Spain were great, super easy travelling, lots of public space to run around in. He particularly loved Sintra (castles!) and Coimbra (Harry Potter-esque). There were so many great things... it's hard to pick just one.

I took my (then) 10 year old son on a road trip around Ireland. It was nice becuase there was lots to do and see (music, castles, walks), but easy to get around and speak the language, similar foods, etc. It was eye-opening in other places how much eating unfamiliar foods can affect a kid's experience on a holiday. (We've also taken him to different countries in South America and in Europe).

One of our favourites was back East when we rented a car and drove from Montreal to New Brunswick, PEi and Nova Scotia. It was amazing.
Rebecca
The islands/beaches in southern Thailand by far. My kids are still asking to go back despite the long flight. Super affordable activities, delicious food, amazing sites, friendly people, etc. A+ all around.
Jessica
Thailand beaches were great. Tons to do with kids in Singapore. And they both loved Mongolia (we did a two week tour with private car and homestays in gers and we all thought it was amazing!). They were almost 6 and 9 at the time.
Deanne
We had a great time with an 8 and 10 year old in Japan. It's super clean and friendly, the food is amazing and there's lots to do with kids. And it's not as expensive as you might think, especially since the quality and standards are so high.
Sarah
We took our 10 and 12 year olds to Amsterdam, spent time there and then took the train from Amsterdam to Paris. 5 days in each city. We had a great time!!
Michelle
When our kids were 7 and 10 we rented a canal boat in the Loire Valley (France). Camping on the water. We had bikes so the kids could bike along the side and we could travel in to town to explore. Super memorable week. They are now young adults and still talk about it fondly.
Donna
we travelled to Rethymno, Crete, this past summer and stayed at the Ibiscos Garden Hotel. We travelled with a couple with 2 small children, ages 3 and 5. There were so many fun things going on for the kids. They have a giant bear that dresses up and dances with the kids a couple times a day, children’s pool area. Young chef program where the kids go and pick fresh veggies out of the hotel garden and then are taught how to make pizza. The beach was a short block away. Those little girls had a very fun time

Our kids loved our Costa Rica trip at that age. Surfing, monkeys, snorkelling, zip lines, hot springs..,,

We took our 9mo to Greece- Crete for 17 days in May 2017 and although tiring, it was awesome and I'd do it again.
Last year we went to Phoenix for spring training with our 2.5yo and 6mo and it was great. We didn't have huge expectations for Phoenix, but it has so much to do for kids (and it was warm!).
Salle
Italy is wonderful. They have such a love for family and children. Sorrento and Sicily were two favourite spots.

We also loved our trip to Viet Nam, another place that loves kids.

Bike riding in Holland take the Cheese circle and visit 3 cheese towns. Gouda has the Thursday cheese market in the town square with a large market and lots of cheese. Mind you it would help if you like Cheese. Munich is also very easy to ride around

Fun Family Vacation Adventures with Kids
Planning a family vacation can be both exciting and challenging, especially when you're looking for something out of the ordinary. Europe and China are both incredible destinations, offering a wealth of cultural experiences, historical sites, and natural wonders. However, when traveling with kids, it's essential to strike a balance between educational and entertaining activities. Here are some of the best vacation adventures that families have enjoyed with their little ones:
European Adventures
- Exploring Historical Cities: Cities like Rome, Paris, and London offer a fascinating blend of ancient history and modern culture. Kids can marvel at iconic landmarks like the Colosseum, the Eiffel Tower, and Buckingham Palace, while also indulging in delicious local cuisine and interactive museums.
- Fairy Tale Road Trip: Germany's Fairy Tale Road is a magical journey through the enchanting world of famous fairy tales. From the Brothers Grimm Museum to charming medieval towns, this adventure will captivate young imaginations.
- Island Hopping in Greece: The Greek islands offer a perfect mix of adventure and relaxation. Kids can explore ancient ruins, swim in crystal-clear waters, and participate in fun activities like pottery workshops or cooking classes.
Chinese Wonders
- The Great Wall of China: Walking along one of the world's most incredible architectural marvels is an unforgettable experience for kids. They can learn about the rich history and engineering feats behind this ancient wonder.
- Panda Encounter: A visit to the Chengdu Research Base of Giant Panda Breeding is a dream come true for animal lovers. Kids can observe these gentle giants up close and learn about conservation efforts.
- Terracotta Warriors: The Terracotta Army in Xi'an is a jaw-dropping sight that will spark curiosity and imagination in young minds. The vast underground pit of life-sized clay warriors is a testament to ancient Chinese craftsmanship.
Whichever destination you choose, remember to involve your kids in the planning process, research kid-friendly activities, and prioritize creating lasting memories as a family. Travel is an incredible opportunity for children to learn, explore, and broaden their horizons.

Hi! We are looking for a fun different vacation in october for our family (2adults and 2 kids age 7/9). We have been looking at Europe and China. My question is what have been people's best vacation adventures with kids? Seeing what other people have done is a great way to decide what we want to do. Thanks in advance!!
