Will be flying to London from Vancouver this Spring and am wondering which airport would be more convenient and accessible to public transpo around Central London. Should I fly into Heathrow Airport or Gatwick?

Gatwick is cheaper because of taxes. Not sure one is more convenient than another, as we have used Heathrow unfortunately!

I've flown into and out of both and didn't find either easier or harder than the other. (Heathrow with AC, Gatwick with WJ)

Both have easy access to central London by tube or Gatwick Express. Generally Gatwick is cheaper to fly into because charters use it.

Yes,Gatwick Express is expensive vs tube.

Gatwick express goes to Victoria station I think? But the underground does go right from Heathrow, into the city too. Both work, but go with what's cheaper!

We went on British Airways to Heathrow.

Let's put it this Gatwick is like being in Surrey close but still time to travel , Heathrow is Richmond closer and faster transit

Heathrow to London is 20 miles 35 min drive (no traffic jams included) or 44 min by train - Gatwick is 28 miles 1 hour drive time or 43 min by train

Agree with
Angela and Helen both easy to get into central London - Gatwick is cheaper to fly into because of the charter flights and the airport taxes are much cheaper - Heathrow adds about 35% to ticket cost where Gatwick adds bout 20%

It all depends on which Airline you are using. Some only go to Gatwick, others only to Heathrow.

The tube from Heathrow is so much faster, cheaper, easier. The train from Gatwick is more expensive and only gets you to an outer station in London, you need to change to the tube at Victoria station.

Air Canada and British Airways both fly into Heathrow. However the ticket prices from these airlines is more expensive. If you are concerned about costs Gatwick would be your best bet.

There is a regular rail service from Gatwick to Victoria station which has fewer stops than the underground and is the best value. Ultimately, the cost of your flight determines where you land.

Heathrow... but there are trains from gatwick too. Just not as frequent, more $ and longer to get to w1

You can get a train from Gatwick into many stations in London. Take Thameslink not the Gatwick Express. Far less money. You can also use your Oyster card from Gatwick into London on any train. I go at least once a year.

Which London Airport is More Convenient?

If you are flying to London from Vancouver this Spring and are looking for the most convenient airport in terms of public transportation to Central London, you have two main options: Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport.

Heathrow Airport

Heathrow Airport is the busiest airport in the UK and is located about 15 miles west of Central London. It is well-connected to the city by the London Underground, also known as the Tube. The Piccadilly line runs directly from Heathrow to Central London, making it a convenient option for travelers. Additionally, there are also Heathrow Express and Heathrow Connect trains that offer faster services to Paddington Station.

Gatwick Airport

Gatwick Airport is located about 30 miles south of Central London. While it is further away from the city than Heathrow, Gatwick is also well-served by public transportation. The Gatwick Express train provides a direct link to Victoria Station in Central London, and there are also regular trains and coaches that connect the airport to various parts of the city.

Conclusion

Both Heathrow and Gatwick airports offer convenient public transportation options to Central London. If you prioritize speed and directness, Heathrow Airport may be the better choice due to the direct Tube and train services. However, if you are looking for more budget-friendly options, Gatwick Airport also provides reliable transportation to the city center.

Ultimately, the decision of which airport to fly into will depend on your specific needs and preferences. Consider factors such as flight availability, cost, and convenience when making your choice.
