I wouldn't trust them. Keep your epipen (more than one)handy and be careful with dessert mostly
Janine
Agreed. I wouldn't trust buffets to be free of nuts. EpiPen is a must!
Jackie
Shereen I couldn’t agree more. Epipen at all times and learn how to say your allergies is Spanish including the severity of it. Not everyone speaks English and not everyone understands English well enough. I couldn’t believe a few years ago in Cuba seeing someone trying to communicate their allergies to staff in English and getting mad that they didn’t understand them.

The local food varies by region but in general we have found Mexico to be pretty good peanut-wise. Took our anaphylactic kid there when younger and now that he is grown he is actually spending the full winter there this year with no issues at all. When we went I had Spanish business cards made up explaining the allergy but found that could still be an issue but fortunately google translate came into being which has been a god-send. When language is a barrier he just pulls out his phone and no problem.
Joe
the higher end resorts are very familiar with dietary restrictions but I would still pack an epipen.

We were just at the Hilton Cancun All-Inclusive and every time we ate they asked us if we had allergies or any restrictions. Wouldn’t trust it 100%, but they do seem to try.

I am GF and allergic to all nuts, legumes, lentils - among other things. I always need to be careful when I eat out, and find the resorts very accommodating.

Were at an all inclusive in Puerto Vallarta now. This morning I had fruit with granola and there were peanuts in it. They ask before they seat you if there are allergies but I would be really careful of buffet items.
Kelvin
Not really.

We are are Barceló Maya Palace now and ate asked before every meal if we have any allergies. My suggestion would be to be cautious at the buffets however as they have no control there.
Brian
Thank you for the information. It’s great to hear of other people’s experience. Thanks again!!

Do be cautious- just at a Mexican resort last month and asked the waiter and a female staff who was replacing the soup-if there was any dairy in the soup- they both said no- I tasted it and stopped and said to my bf- this tastes creamy. So he went and found the best speaking English person who happened to be the manager- if there was any dairy in the soup- the answer- yes- cream!
Jessica
Jill yes, true, it’s always better to ask if there is leche, crema, or queso instead.

Be careful and she needs to learn how to handle her allergy. I crawled onto a counter and ate a can of mixed nuts when I was 3 and got rushed to the hospital. I dealt with years of hospital visits thanks to a lot of oops at places. I learned how to deal with what I should stay away from and now can analyze what may have nuts in it. I’m allergic to more than peanuts which is more difficult. Honestly, just avoid deserts if you can. If it is only peanuts watch for mole sauce. A lot of items won’t have peanuts in them. I’ve travelled internationally and had minimal issues. I do often talk to the chef in the kitchen at events. Wait staff may not be the best to ask. If you tip well, you will get a lot better service and help. Still have the epipen and a plan for if you need medical assistance.

Most resorts in Mexico ask you for any food allergies before you enter the restaurant or door .
Nicole
My husband has a severe nut allergy. We have always been fine in Mexico just stay away from dessert. The resort we went to in December asked at every meal.
Greg
Ocean Coral & Turquesa they ask about any allergies at every restaurant as you walk in the door.
Brian
Thank you

Managing Food Allergies and Sensitivities at All-Inclusive Resorts in Mexico
Going on vacation with food allergies or sensitivities can be a daunting experience. Fortunately, many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico are well-equipped to handle various dietary restrictions, including peanut allergies. Here are some tips and advice to help you plan a safe and enjoyable trip.
Communication is Key
When booking your all-inclusive resort, be sure to inform them about your daughter's peanut allergy and any other food sensitivities your family may have. Most reputable resorts will be happy to accommodate your needs, but they need to be made aware of them in advance.
Inquire About Allergy-Friendly Dining Options
Many all-inclusive resorts in Mexico offer designated allergy-friendly dining areas or special menus for guests with food allergies or sensitivities. These areas are typically kept free of potential allergens and staffed by trained personnel who understand the importance of proper food handling and preparation.
Request Allergy-Safe Snacks and Amenities
In addition to meals, be sure to request allergy-safe snacks, drinks, and amenities for your room. This can include peanut-free snacks, allergen-free toiletries, and hypoallergenic bedding. Most resorts will be happy to accommodate these requests if made in advance.
Pack Your Own Emergency Supplies
While all-inclusive resorts in Mexico are generally well-equipped to handle food allergies, it's always a good idea to pack your own emergency supplies, such as epinephrine auto-injectors, antihistamines, and any other necessary medications. This will provide an extra layer of safety and peace of mind during your trip.
Educate Yourself and Your Family
Before your trip, take the time to educate yourself and your family about food allergies and potential cross-contamination risks. This will help you make informed decisions and communicate your needs effectively with resort staff.
With proper planning and communication, you and your family can enjoy a safe and memorable all-inclusive vacation in Mexico, even with food allergies and sensitivities.

Hi group! Our family were thinking of going to Mexico this year. We have a daughter who has a peanut allergy and some food sensitivities. Can all-inclusives manage allergies for example? Any advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
