Can I bring my e-bike on a United flight if I remove the battery?

Question:

Has anyone travelled on United with an e-bike (with the battery removed)? I know the website says no electric bikes permitted, but once you take the battery out is it OK then? Can't get through to the airline, and don't want to show up with a bike that I can't take with me (and shipping it is not an option

Are you going to travel with your battery or rent one at your destination? Typical electric bike batteries exceed the capacity limit of lithium batteries allowed on board passenger aircraft.

Battery is too big for carry on. Check in battery isn't allowed. I assume you just want to check in the bike without the battery. If the ebike is heavy, carry on I don't think you can. Anyway, I don't know but that is my logic

I don’t have a real answer but when I have looked into shipping an ordinary bike I have found it prohibitively expensive. Depending where you’re going and for how long it may be cheaper to buy used and sell when you leave.
I hope you get an answer to your actual question. I will follow.

Travelling with an E-Bike on United Airlines

Many travelers have had the same question when it comes to bringing an e-bike on a United Airlines flight. The airline's policy states that electric bikes are not permitted, but does that change if the battery is removed?

Unfortunately, United Airlines has a strict policy against electric bikes, regardless of whether the battery is removed or not. Even if the battery is separated from the bike, the frame itself is still considered an electric bike and will not be allowed on the flight.

It can be frustrating when you can't get through to the airline to confirm this information, but it's always best to err on the side of caution. Showing up at the airport with a bike that you can't take with you would be a major inconvenience.

If shipping the e-bike is not an option for you, it might be worth looking into renting a bike at your destination instead. Many cities have bike rental services that offer a variety of bikes, including electric ones.

While it's disappointing that United Airlines does not allow electric bikes on their flights, it's important to respect their policies and find alternative solutions for your travel plans.
