Might wanna check if Kiyomizudera is still under renovation. Same goes with a good number of the temples! We were there in June and they had huge sections all covered in tarp. If it's sunny, Kinkakuji is amazing. Gion is pretty at night. Make sure to walk around the river area restaurants. When everything is lit up it's really nice
Yamazaki whiskey distillery is insanely awesome! The place is beautiful. If you like whiskey, do the tour! Actually even if you don't, it's still a great thing to experience.
Check out www.japanguide.com if you haven't already
It's one of the best resources for trips to Japan.

Arashiyama and hakone area to capture the beautiful autumn colours.

I live in Osaka which is known as the food capital of Japan. Very lively and friendly city. I recommend trying okonomiyaki, takoyaki, and ramen (my fav is tonkotsu).
Minoo in Northern Osaka is a great place for photos. It's an ideal location for Autumn (with leaves changing colour). Kyoto is about 25 mins by train from Osaka, which will you give you more of the history and what you expect from Japan.
If you're here for longer, Nara is also another good location to add to your itinerary.

Koyasan's wooded cemetery north of Osaka.

This! I've been to Japan three times now, and Koyasan still stands out in my mind as one of the most hauntingly beautiful places. Stay the night and see the cemetery at night as well as during the day.

asakusa shrine in tokyo... night shots. pitch dark hand held shot with extreme high ISO... very grainy but effect was very cool
Matt
Thanks
Peter, nice shot. This is on my list.
Peter
Matt but do go early before it gets dark since the street markets there closes early... we made that mistake, but couldn't go back since we were leaving tokyo next day
Rene
You should go to Kyoto. The Japanese maple trees will be changing colours and it's really amazing to see. https://www.insidekyoto.com/autumn-colors-in-kyoto

I just got back from a trip with a group of Americans to travel Japan. We were in Tokyo, Hakone, Hiroshima, Nara, Kyoto, and Kanazawa. I would definitely go to Kyoto to capture the autumn leaves there. Some shrines and temples such as Chion-in and Kodai-ji Temple will soon start night time light up.They're so beautiful.

Togetsu-kyo Bridge in Arashiyama and Bamboo Grove in Sagano are also beautiful.
We were at Kiyomizu-dera Temple a week ago, but I was so disappointed the main building was still under construction and we were not able to see the famous stage.

Must-Photograph Destinations in Japan for Your 6-Day Trip
Japan is a photographer's paradise, offering a unique blend of ancient traditions, stunning landscapes, and modern urban wonders. With your passion for photography and a limited time of 6 days, it's essential to plan your itinerary carefully to capture the best photographic opportunities. Here are some must-photograph destinations that you should consider during your upcoming trip.
Fushimi Inari Taisha, Kyoto
Fushimi Inari Taisha, located in Kyoto, is a breathtaking Shinto shrine known for its iconic vermilion torii gates that wind through the hills. The stunning contrast of the vibrant gates against the lush greenery creates an unforgettable visual spectacle. Capture the mesmerizing pathways and the intricate details of the torii gates for a truly captivating photography experience.
Mount Fuji
No trip to Japan is complete without capturing the majestic beauty of Mount Fuji, the highest mountain in the country. This iconic peak offers stunning photographic opportunities, especially during early morning or late afternoon when the lighting is soft and the clouds add drama to the scene. Consider visiting the Fuji Five Lakes area or nearby towns like Hakone for the best vantage points.
Shibuya Crossing, Tokyo
Shibuya Crossing, the famous scramble crossing in Tokyo, is a must-visit destination for urban photographers. Capture the energy and chaos of this iconic intersection as thousands of pedestrians cross in all directions simultaneously. The neon lights and towering buildings in the background add to the vibrant atmosphere, making for unforgettable street photography.
Arashiyama Bamboo Grove, Kyoto
The Arashiyama Bamboo Grove in Kyoto is a serene and otherworldly destination that should be on every photographer's list. The tall bamboo stalks create a mesmerizing tunnel-like effect, offering incredible opportunities for capturing the play of light and shadows. Visit during the early morning or late afternoon for the best lighting conditions and fewer crowds.
These are just a few of the many incredible destinations that Japan has to offer for photographers. Remember to research the best times to visit each location, taking into account factors such as lighting conditions, crowds, and seasonal changes. Additionally, be respectful of local customs and regulations while capturing your photographic memories.
Enjoy your 6-day journey through Japan, and happy shooting!

I'm travelling alone to Japan at the end of November for 6 days. In addition to food, my other reason for going is photography. I'm still in the process of finalizing my itinerary. Any must-photograph recommendations is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
