We did Spain when our son was 3. Pluses - tons of things to see and experience from the museums (if your baby is ok being in the stroller or carried) to the zoos to the beaches. We spent 3 weeks there but visited three regions only and would love to go back to explore more as we were far way from being done. So, if you plan 1-2 months trip and want to explore something, to me that would be the way to go.
Minuses - it is not as 'child-friendly' as Canada. For example, not all metro stations or even buildings will have an elevator. Or if they do, it might be tiny. We had a big stroller and it was a pain to get to many places. Europe is 'small's in terms of sizes (that's why we love it, right?) But just keep in kind to get a smaller stroller or baby carrier. On another note, you have really to keep an eye on all your belongings and the baby. We were advised by locals to do that quite frequently and still got robbed in Barcelona while checking in to our return flight. Otherwise, good impressions and plans to go back! Let me know if you need any suggestions on this one.
MG
Oh, just read abt your travel time. Spain wont be a beach holiday then, unless you decide to go to Canary islands...
Jody
This is a great peice of advice! I love pros and cons lists! I mean the whole keep an eye on your child thing makes me nervous, but it’s also common sense right?
MG
Jody it is, but still. Although if your baby is 1 only and (maybe) not extremely active (our son at 1 was quite happy in the stroller), it might be absolutely doable.

I love Peru, but the altitude change can be a significant impact if you're in Lake Titicaca or Cusco (heading to Machu Picchu). Fine for adults who can medicate and suffer through it, but I'm not sure I'd take my kids when they were that age, as I think they would just cry all day.
Kyle
Been to 30 countries so far and Bali is my number 1 for sure. Would be very child friendly as well.
Adel
Kyle couldn’t agree more. Bali is unreal and pretty family friendly
Danielle
I’ve been a lot of places and South Africa is one of my favs. Soooo beautiful. So much to do.
Shane
I would recommend Thailand. There is soo much to see. Jungles, Big cities, small towns, farms, Islands! I spend 2-3 months there for 7 years and I havnt seen it all. Its cheap and easy to get around.
Nik
Shane and many foreign visitors bring their young children. The Thai people love children. Highly recommend Thailand too!
Shane
Nikki Renee For sure. Tons of Swedish and Russian families. Its like Mexico for them
Kristen
Bali - were going with our two 1/2 year old and 6months old this Christmas and Spain for 90 days
We did panama for a month and a half last year.
MG
Kristen what did you do in Panama for a month and half?..
Teri
Thailand and Bali are easily done with children, or if you want to stay a bit closer Nicaragua and Costa Rica are great as well. Feel free to reach out [email protected] I've planned trips for young families to both (and others)
Nirmala
With a 1-year old, I would suggest Mediterranean Europe i.e. Spain, Portugal etc. They love kids there.
Lauren
Europe is very easy to travel around, especially with a small child (we’ve done it twice). Thailand is also very child friendly and fairly easy to travel around. Like others mentioned, it depends on when you’re planning to go.
Lauren
Although shorter flights with a 1 year old would be better for your sanity. Highly suggest getting them their own seat.
Mackenzi
Lauren it’s also super budget friendly! (Thailand)
Jody
Thanks for all the feedback! We would be thinking of leaving from January to February depending on my work schedule, possibly leave in December! So far I am really liking the idea of Spain cause I could take the train to other countries!! I do have a hard time staying in one place as I love do to explore!
MG
Jody you may not even need that. Spain truly has tons of things to do and see.
Judy
My two cents is Spain because you would be in Europe and as the countries are really close together if you are taking 1-2 months then you can use the rail to travel at leisure with your little one exploring different countries
Daisy
with a 1 year old on a plane for over 5 hours
you are brave lol
i’ll say Spain .. not to worry about zika , travel shots for the kiddo n the weather is not too hot
Meglore
Portugal, southern coast of Spain...we really enjoyed Switzerland (crazy expensive though!!!) and Germany.
Mert
We enjoy Aruba.... we spend a few months there every year. There is so much to do on such a little island. B
Sandy
Spain is beautiful, Costa del Sol then go up to Barcelona and into France. Portugal is right there too
Erin
Australia is a great place to travel with kids. They are very kid friendly and while the flight is extremely long they'll be a lot of couples and singles with very little ones and everyone is very understand and supportive
Jorgia
We did Hawaii forty days with our one year old. It was magical. Total cost was 8000 for everything. Absolutely everything
Alexis
We just got back from 6 weeks in Europe. Can I just say you should definitely add Krakow, Poland to your list. What an amazing city!! Our favorite place of all.
Elaine
First I would check the Government of Canada’s site for travel alerts especially if you have a baby.
Chris
Hi Jody, if you have a specific month of the year in mind, it might help with narrowing down the list, based on weather.
Matt
I'd look at vietnam lots of things to do and very affordable once there.
Jayson
Italy was great. Our son learned to walk in a Rome hotel. Hide and seek in Roman ruins is fun. And with an MEC kid carrier on my back, Pompeii was a snap. Plus Italians served us first, and at the Vatican, we got VIP treatment - we skipped the entire line
Jody
Thanks again to everyone who’s taken the time to give a little bit of advice and info on the experiences you’ve had! It’s all very helpful!

Advice for Planning a 1-2 Month Adventure with a 1-Year-Old
Planning an adventure with a little one can be both exciting and challenging. Each destination has its unique charms and considerations, so it's essential to weigh the pros and cons carefully. Here are some insights based on similar experiences shared by fellow adventurers.
Peru
Peru offers a rich cultural experience and breathtaking landscapes, from the iconic Machu Picchu to the vibrant cities like Cusco and Lima. However, the high altitude and rugged terrain may pose challenges for a 1-year-old. It's advisable to consult a pediatrician and plan for proper acclimatization.
South Africa
South Africa is a dream destination for wildlife enthusiasts, boasting incredible safari experiences and diverse landscapes. Many resorts and lodges cater to families, making it a relatively comfortable option for traveling with a young child. Safety precautions and appropriate vaccinations should be considered.
Bali
Bali offers a unique blend of culture, stunning beaches, and lush landscapes. The warm, tropical climate and relatively affordable accommodation options make it an attractive choice for families. However, be mindful of the potential health risks and take necessary precautions, especially when it comes to food and water.
Croatia
Croatia's picturesque coastal towns, crystal-clear waters, and rich history make it a delightful destination for families. The Mediterranean climate and relatively short travel distances between attractions can be ideal for a 1-year-old. However, consider the accessibility of accommodations and transportation options.
Spain
Spain's diverse regions offer something for everyone, from vibrant cities like Barcelona and Madrid to the stunning beaches of the Costa del Sol. The laid-back Spanish culture and abundance of family-friendly attractions make it a great option. However, be prepared for the potential language barrier and adjust your expectations accordingly.
Brazil
Brazil's natural wonders, like the Amazon rainforest and the iconic beaches of Rio de Janeiro, offer an unforgettable adventure. However, the vastness of the country and the potential language barrier may present challenges. It's essential to research and plan your itinerary carefully, considering the safety and comfort of your little one.
Ultimately, the choice depends on your preferences, budget, and the specific needs of your family. Consider factors like travel time, accommodations, medical facilities, and the overall ease of navigating with a young child. Consulting with fellow parents who have traveled with infants can also provide invaluable insights.
Whichever destination you choose, embrace the adventure and create lasting memories with your loved ones.

Advice needed!
I’m trying to plan a 1-2month adventure with my partner, myself and our 1 year old!!
I’m stuck on the destination! I’m torn between all the places (Peru, South Africa, Bali, Croatia, Spain, Brazil and the list goes on!) if anyone has any input from similar experiences that would be greatly appreciated!
