make sure you ask the place you are exchanging what the rate is for how much you buy I found at the bank you get a better rate on $1001.00 than you do for $1000.00 But I find the bank the best RBC and you should order in advance --- watch for places that charge a fee for the exchange

We took cash out of the ATM in Ireland and Northern Ireland. Servus Credit Union charges $4 for international transactions. No other fees, though.

If you have a Scotia bank debit there are no fees at Dutchea Bank and Barkleys Bank in Europe.

Get GBP at your local bank (I worked at RBC for years and we usually had it or could order it in). Have enough for your first couple days, at least. Then, as others said, use you debit card. You will usually get a better rate than at a Bureau de Change.

I just took money out. They charge you a flat fee for the withdrawal amd then the exchange is whatever it is that day but it will automatically show you. When I was there in June it was about 90 cents canadian for 1 pound.

Best Places to Exchange Currency
Looking for the best place to exchange your Great British Pounds (GBP) for a decent rate? You've come to the right place! In this blog post, we'll explore some of the best options to get the most out of your money when exchanging currency.
Banks and Credit Unions
While banks and credit unions are a convenient option for exchanging currency, they typically offer less favorable exchange rates compared to other options. However, if you have an account with a particular bank, they may offer better rates for their customers.
Currency Exchange Kiosks
Currency exchange kiosks, often found in airports, train stations, and popular tourist areas, are a quick and easy option. However, they tend to have higher fees and less competitive exchange rates due to their convenience and prime locations.
Online Currency Exchange Services
Online currency exchange services have gained popularity in recent years due to their competitive rates and convenience. Services like Wise (formerly TransferWise), OFX, and XE offer secure online platforms where you can exchange currency at rates that are often better than banks and kiosks. Additionally, some services offer options for home delivery or pick-up at designated locations.
Local Currency Exchange Bureaus
Local currency exchange bureaus, especially those located in areas with a high volume of tourists, can offer competitive rates. It's worth shopping around and comparing rates at different bureaus to find the best deal.
Tips for Getting the Best Exchange Rate
- Compare rates from multiple sources before exchanging your currency.
- Avoid exchanging currency at airports or hotels, as their rates are typically higher.
- Consider using a credit card that doesn't charge foreign transaction fees for purchases made in the local currency.
- Be wary of hidden fees or commissions when exchanging currency.
By researching your options and being mindful of exchange rates and fees, you can ensure that you get the most value for your Great British Pounds when travelling or making international transactions.
