I stayed at the Barcelona Central Garden hostel. I'd highly recommend that. You can get a private room or two. Or a quad bunk room
Paul
Oh and by the way PS take me

Such a nice place, very central and amazing staff. Also a place you can cook as well. There were a couple families staying there when I was there.

Las ramblas is quite noisy , I couldn't sleep the week I was there , party all day all night
Nancy
Thx for heads up! Hoping to find quiet non hostel hotel walking distance to Las Ramblas.
Sharon
There's much more to Barcelona than Las Ramblas... just say'n!
Nic
Hostal Oliva. On the Passeo de Gracia. Walking distance to pretty much everything (and close to the metro for things that aren't) In a lovely old building. It's a family that runs it and they are lovely. Central but quiet.

Be very careful in Barcelona. Myself and many people I know were robbed or mugged. Don't bring anything worth anything.
Nancy
Unfortunately you're not the first person who's warned me about pickpocketing/mugging. Will def be more diligent of my surroundings and stay low key
Holly
I stayed in an airbnb and someone with a key came in our place when we'd left for only 1.5 hours and my laptop, charger stick, phone charger, jewelry and sunglasses were gone. Another person I know had their tires slashed so someone could mug them when the car couldn't go anywhere. So yes be careful. It's pretty there but high rates of robberies.
Nancy
As I'm travelling with my kids, I think we'll stick with big hotel chains as they may be safer. We're going to look like tourists as we don't exactly "blend in".
Holly
Good call on the big hotel chains. This city is filled with tourists.
Sharon
Nancy a few tips re safety...ALWAYS carry your purse, backpack on your front, NEVER on your back. Wear a money belt with your passport, larger $, insurance papers, etc. under your clothes and have the ID numbers written in secret code left in your suitcase. Carry a small wallet for your daily $ allowance. Look like you "fit in" and know what you are doing. When in doubt follow the crowd and if you feel unsafe go into a store. If you need to retrieve $ from your hidden belt, go to a washroom or into a bank so they can openly see what your doing. Thieves smell paranoia so being confident and travel savvy go a long way.
Holly
Sharon I won't use it again either
Sharon
Holly-Ann Cromarty I've never used it. It just didn't "smell" right, aka unregulated.
Nancy
Leaning towards best western springhill family loft style rooms right in the Vatican. Not bad price
Larry
Pulitzer hotel. Barcelona is no more dangerous than other European tourist sites. But always be aware.
Nancy
I'll be coming off a cruise ship so will be hauling large luggage. Have to factor in hotels near taxis/street accessible.
Paul
I actually took a taxi from the hostel I recommended to you to the cruise ship terminal and it was around 20 euro if I remember correctly
Nancy
thx Paul, Little weary on hostels so think I'll be sticking with big chain hotels.
Paul
Nancy with all due respect Big Chain hotels have no local feel and no culture. Any big chain hotel is the same anywhere around the world if that's what you want I guess that's what you get but if you want to truly feel a little bit more of a local cultural I'd highly recommend trying a hostel or even Air B&B, just a thought. Consider it.

My daughters and I stayed last August at Acta Atruim Palace which is a block or so off La Ramblas. It was a great location, we were able to walk to everything. The staff was friendly, rooms were clean and a good size.
Everyone told us about pickpockets and I thought we were very aware of our surroundings and all that, until the last day of our trip when my daughter almost had her purse snatched. Don't let your guard down. Saying that, where ever you travel to you have to travel smart and safe. Have a wonderful time. We loved Barcelona!! Would go back!!
Larry
Hotel jazz. Great area. Well priced.

We were a 10 min subway ride away from Las Ramblas, but found our hotel to be in a nice area. There's cafes & a grocery store downstairs, a Japanese resto a couple streets down, an elementary school on the next street (we had a 'garden' view which looked at the kids play) & wasn't far from the subway. We took a cab there when we first arrived, but chose to use the subway for everything else.
Have fun!
