4 adults are travelling to San Francisco May 21 for 10 days. What Do you recommend we see and do? Thanks for any suggestion.

Book tickets for Alcatraz visit online beforehand. A few weeks before. Early am visit to beat the crowd worked well for us.

I enjoyed the night tour - you arrive before dark and get a nice sunset over the city, you also get some extra talks and programs at no additional cost. There's only one ferry-full, so it's reasonably quiet too.

Muir woods...lovely redwoods and manageable hikes.

If you are gonna do Muir woods make sure you go online and reserve parking. If it's full they will not let u in without a reservation.

I enjoyed Fisherman’s Wharf, China Town and taking the ferry to wine country, NAPA for a day wine tasting.. fantastic fun. Biked over the Golden Gate to Sausalito and Muir Woods. Alcatraz Island was a waste of time touring a prison. Haight Ashbury was fun to explore. The Japanese Gardens are beautiful. Rented a car and drove along the coast to Carmel and back. Gorgeous!Great restaurant in North Beach in SF. Enjoy

I went on every single one of these PWYC walking tours while I was in SF. Where did you stay? We were thinking union square but it is looking pretty expensive for rooms. We would like 2 bedrooms. Thanks for your suggestions on the walking tours.

public transit is pretty good. If price is an issue consider staying across the bay in Berkeley. It’s a short trip into the city. A BART card combined with a citypass or muni passport may be less expensive and more convenient than renting a car for city exploring. It was for us.

Carmel and Big Sur for sure, if the PCH highway is open, they're within a few hours of the city and the drive is amazing. I loved riding the cable cars and seeing how they turned them around at the end of the route on a turntable, literally turned by a human. North Beach has some great restaurants and a food spot to pay homage to Kerouac, Ginsberg etc. if you're a fan.

Also, lots of bike rentals everywhere, we had a great time riding across the Golden Gate bridge!

saigon sandwich for the best banh mi of all time. Cash only. Birite ice cream for legit (apparently where the flavour was invented) salted caramel. Hike up to buena vista park!

Cable car for sure but don’t get on at either end. Walk up to the 2nd or 3rd stop. The cars still stop but the queues are far shorter !

You HAVE TO cross the Golden Gate Bridge by bike! HAVE TO! It’s an amazing tour!

Battery Spencer for great photos of Golden Gate bridge.. can do on the way back from Muir woods. Try to be at the woods right when it opens and on a weekday if possible so that it isn't full of tourist busloads.

A drive down Hwy 1 to Carmel by the Sea is a must. It’s a 3 hour drive from SF without stops. So much to see in between. It’s well worth spending 2 full days for sure. Don’t miss out!

Rent a bike and bike over the bridge! It’s so incredible. Have lunch in Sausalito at the barrel house tavern on the patio (amazing views) and if you’re too tired or tipsy you can take a small ferry back with the bike!

Also don’t leave ANY valuables in car. Our rental car got broken into while we were at baker beach (which is beautiful) for 20 mins and my friends purse was stolen. SF is notorious for this.
