Linda
I found I did not need a guide. Just find a reliable guidebook, stay in the centre of town, get out of the ferry area as soon as possible, not dangerous but plenty of folks selling their wares and services.
Trish
Linda did you have a rental car that you left at the ferry? I am a bit nervous about leaving our car for possibly 2 nights. How long did you stay in Tangiers?
Linda
No, I flew into Tangier. I was in Tangier for three nights. I understand there is a car park behind the ticket office. The police station is very near by. I would not leave ANYTHING in the car. If it is broken into, the rental insurance should cover damage.
Trish
We will be leaving our car on the Spain side. Did you have to wear a scarf?
Linda
No, but I would suggest that you keep your arms and legs covered. Many local women will wear a scarf, some will also have a veil. Moroccans, generally, are tolerant but will appreciate modesty on your part.
Trish
I thought as much. I had planned on pants and long sleeves but wondered about a head covering. Thanks for the tips Linda!

In my experience, if you are fair haired use a scarf. You will receive a great deal of attention due to your fair hair, skin and blue eyes...
Trish
I'm Iranian - I don't think I will get any special attention. lol
