Keep looking for mistakes in fares. They can come up and go anytime. When u find one book asap. Other than that ideally about 2 months before is the best time for international flights. Earlier than that is not good and so is later than that. Hope that helps.

Just to be clear, for next summer we've already purchased. Last year i began looking in March, then continued almost daily. Kept waiting for that magic moment, but the price rose steadily as August approached. Two months before August the price was very high. Perhaps i'm not looking on the right sites.

There are so many variables but here are some tips:
Tuesday is the sweetest spot during the week for purchasing. Best day to shop: The best time to book a flight is usually Tuesday at about 3 p.m. eastern time. Many airlines release weekly airfare sales in the early morning hours of Tuesday, and by mid-afternoon, competing airlines have matched sale prices. In other words, shoppers now have the most deals to choose from.
International tickets: Shop between 5 ½ months and 1 ½ months before departure.
Popular times to fly: For peak travel periods such as June, July and August; Thanksgiving or Christmas/New Year’s; and other holiday dates, purchase tickets two months in advance.
Always compare and shop around airlines. google flights https://www.google.ca/flights/ is a fantastic resource for playing with low fare searches and then you can book with your favourite website.
Look at traveling from alternate cities. Sometimes flying from the US can save you huge bucks...other times not so much.
Flash sales come up but do your research first to recognize a good deal from a not so good deal.
Best of luck!

A.I. says...
The Best Time to Book Flights
The best time to book flights depends on a number of factors, including the destination, the time of year, and the airline. However, there are some general guidelines that can help you save money on your next flight.
Book early.
The earlier you book your flight, the more likely you are to get a good deal. Airlines typically release their cheapest fares several months in advance, and these fares tend to go up as the departure date approaches.
Travel during the off-season.
If you're flexible with your travel dates, you can save a lot of money by flying during the off-season. Airlines typically offer lower fares during the shoulder months (April-May and September-October) and during the winter months (November-March).
Fly on a weekday.
Weekends are typically more expensive to fly than weekdays. If you can, try to fly on a Tuesday, Wednesday, or Thursday to save money.
Be flexible with your destination.
If you're not set on a specific destination, you can often find cheaper flights by flying to a nearby airport. For example, if you're flying to Mexico City, you might be able to save money by flying to Guadalajara or Monterrey instead.
Use a travel agent.
A travel agent can help you find the best deals on flights. They have access to exclusive fares that are not available to the general public.
Sign up for airline newsletters.
Many airlines offer discounts and promotions to their newsletter subscribers. By signing up for these newsletters, you can stay informed about the latest deals and sales.
Follow airlines on social media.
Airlines often announce sales and promotions on social media. By following airlines on Facebook, Twitter, and Instagram, you can stay up-to-date on the latest deals.
By following these tips, you can save money on your next flight. Just remember to be flexible with your travel dates and destination, and to book early. With a little planning, you can find a great deal on your next flight.

Thanks for adding me; a few weeks ago i thought i'd been added, posted something (i thought) and then wondered why nobody responded. Oh well, here goes again.
I'd love to hear people's thoughts about the best times to look for flight deals. For example, if i'd like to fly from YVR to Mexico City RT next August, would folks advise buying now? In April? In June? I realize there's no magic answer to this, but i'm curious as to what other more seasoned travelers do. Thanks!
