I stayed at a traditional ryokan called Tama Ryokan in Shinjuku. It's about $44/person so $88/night but nice location and close to food/fun/transit/pachinko.

Kimi Ryoken in Ikebukuro is solid and cheap. About $90 per night for 2 people, and real close to the Yamanote circle line for convenience.

I stayed in a capsule hotel when I was in Tokyo for NYE. I definitely recommend it! Such a neat experience, and they are much roomier than you think!

I will have not seen my boyfriend in six months. Privacy a must, ha.

I will be leaving for Tokyo next week and one of the cheapest accommodations we found was from liveinasian.com. If you stay for a week it is 56,100 yen for the 7 nights during New Years. It is in the nakano area but pretty close to the train station. We also used airbnb and vrbo to book our other accommodations.

Trivago is a great site for booking hotels.

I've lived in Tokyo - two places recommended to me are http://www.vrbo.com/455977ha... and http://www.tripadvisor.ca/Hotel_Review-g1066451-d505854...

They are both about JPY 15,000 (Cdn $165 a night.) But these are a great location. In Tokyo, location really is important. So be sure you understand when you book, where you're going to be staying. More than your budget but they are in a great location. If you can find something that's central (and clean) and cheaper at vrbo or air bnb, that might be your best bet.

We stayed at the Citadines Shinjuku. These are serviced apartments with little kitchenette. Don't remember how much we paid but the place was great http://www.citadines.com/en/japan/tokyo/shinjuku.html

Sorry, only the Japanese website came up for mobile: http://www.kimiryokan.jp/ It's a very social place, you'll easily meet other people. For two it's about $70CAD (6500 yen - the exchange rate could change by NYE)

Affordable Accommodation in Tokyo for New Year's Eve
Tokyo is a vibrant and exciting city, and what better time to visit than during the New Year's celebrations? If you're looking for affordable accommodation options for your upcoming trip with your boyfriend, I've got some recommendations for you.
Affordable Hostels
Hostels are a great budget-friendly option, especially for couples who don't mind sharing a room with others. Some popular and well-reviewed hostels in Tokyo include:
- Sakura Hostel Asakusa
- Khaosan Tokyo Kabuki
- Imano Tokyo Hostel
These hostels offer dorm-style rooms as well as private rooms for couples, and they often have amenities like shared kitchens, common areas, and sometimes even on-site bars or restaurants.
Affordable Hotels
If you prefer a bit more privacy and amenities, there are also some budget hotels in Tokyo that might fit your price range. Check out:
- Hotel Sunroute Plaza Shinjuku
- Ibis Tokyo Shinjuku
- Super Hotel Lohas Akasaka
These hotels offer basic but comfortable rooms, often with private bathrooms and amenities like free Wi-Fi and breakfast. They may be a bit more expensive than hostels, but still within your budget.
Airbnb and VRBO
You mentioned considering Airbnb and VRBO (Vacation Rentals by Owner), which can be great options for finding affordable apartments or rooms in Tokyo. While I haven't personally used VRBO, I have had positive experiences with Airbnb in other cities.
The key is to thoroughly read the reviews and descriptions, and communicate with the hosts to ensure you know what you're getting. Some benefits of using these platforms include having access to a kitchen, which can save money on dining out, and often getting more space than a traditional hotel room.
Regardless of where you stay, I'd recommend booking as soon as possible, as accommodations in Tokyo tend to fill up quickly, especially during the popular New Year's period.
Wishing you and your boyfriend a wonderful and memorable trip to Tokyo!

Does anyone have any recommendations for a place to stay in Tokyo? My boyfriend are going for New Years (!!!!!). I'm super budget, and looking for something at $50-100/night. I'm looking on vrbo, flipkey, airbnb, booking.com.... all the usual suspects. Open to anything except a capsule hotel! I'm finding a lot of good stuff on vreb, but I've never used the site. Have people been happy with it?
