Brazil gets my vote especially since you've been to SE Asia already - Beaches, parties, cheap everything and all new
Galli
Bali is amazing. I highly suggest it.

Brazil is good if you know someone local or you are very happy with your street smarts. Amazing sights, nice people but it's very dangerous, unfortunately.
Galli
Mind you I've done Japan Thailand Laos Malaysia Singapore and Bali on one trip and it was the best adventure I've had yet.
Sasha
There are not a lot of nice beaches in Bali, they are rocky and waves are big. But you can easily travel from Bali to Gili islands, that is THE beach experience! Very relaxing atmosphere, good vibe, awesome water and sunsets. There are three islands located nearby, and you can switch from one to another: quiet Gili Meno, Gili Trawangan with bars and restaurants, and Gili Air with nightlife and raves.

Belize or the islands off Honduras?
Linda
Check visa requirements for all countries before you decide
Galli
Bali is close to Lombok and Flores and Komodo as well!
Galli
Check out Flores. It is AMAZING. Mount kelematu has a double caldera with a crystal blue lake. Holy gorgeous! Ps I was just looking at pics today!
Sasha
I second Galli. Bali is a good destination to start with and spend several days to explore Balinese culture, then move on to the other islands nearby. If you like adventures, vacation could be a lifetime experience with paradise-like beaches, fresh seafood, old temples, rice terraces, trekking to unique volcanoes and seeing Comodo dragons.

Nepal??
Sasha
Kyle I adamantly believe there is no beach experience in Nepal, which was a requirement.
Kyle
Oh maybe next time

I had no idea Malaysia has spectacular beaches. I just came from Redang Island: http://notwithoutmypassport.com/wisana-village-redang.../

I'm a surfer and have been to Bali (and surrounds) several times but i don't really think the beaches are that amazing for the beach experience. I don't see why anyone would go that far from Toronto just for a beach experience when there are so many incredible places and beaches much closer. Kuta Bali is not really nice. The nicest beach there is probably Dreamlands but you will find it is jam packed with Asian tourists. Gili islands are a small mission (shuttle bus + boat) - you can snorkle there etc but you can do the exact sdme stuff anywhere in the carribean without arriving super jetlagged. December is wet season in bali and it will be crazy humid, hot and will rain and not the time you want to be there. On the other hand it be the dry season to go to Costa Rica and probs not too hot. I haven't been to Costa Rica but have been scoping it out for a while and it seems like there is a wide variety of stuff to see there. Asia also probs wet season

Wow no mention of Bali's dirty beaches? Maybe the one we went to, we were swimming in garbage in Kuta beach. I liked Thai and Vietnamese beaches. My vote goes to Hoi An or Phuket.
Allison
Thanks everyone, you've really given me feedback to think about now!

The Ultimate Beach Getaway: Bali, Brazil, or Nicaragua?
You're at a crossroads, my friend. Your partner wants to revisit Costa Rica, but you're craving a new adventure. With a 2-3 week window over the Christmas holiday, you're considering Bali, Brazil, or Nicaragua – all renowned for their stunning beaches and unique cultures. Let's dive into each destination and see which one might be the perfect fit for your dream beach getaway.
Bali, Indonesia
Bali is a tropical paradise that offers a captivating blend of natural beauty, rich culture, and incredible value for money. From the iconic rice terraces of Ubud to the stunning beaches of Seminyak and Canggu, Bali has something for everyone. You can indulge in world-class surf spots, explore ancient Hindu temples, and immerse yourself in the vibrant local traditions. Bali is also known for its affordable accommodations, delicious cuisine, and thriving nightlife scene.
Brazil
Brazil is a vast and diverse country that boasts some of the most breathtaking beaches in the world. From the iconic Copacabana and Ipanema in Rio de Janeiro to the idyllic beaches of Bahia and Pernambuco, Brazil offers endless opportunities for sun, sand, and surf. Beyond the beaches, you can experience the vibrant culture of cities like Rio and Salvador, explore the Amazon rainforest, or even take a trip to the majestic Iguazu Falls. While Brazil can be more expensive than some other destinations, with careful planning and budgeting, it's possible to have an unforgettable experience without breaking the bank.
Nicaragua
Nicaragua is an up-and-coming destination that offers an incredible blend of natural beauty, colonial charm, and affordability. The country boasts stunning beaches along the Pacific and Caribbean coasts, including the idyllic Corn Islands and the surf mecca of San Juan del Sur. Inland, you can explore charming colonial cities like Granada and León, hike through lush rainforests, or marvel at the impressive volcanoes that dot the landscape. Nicaragua is also known for its friendly locals, delicious cuisine, and incredibly low prices, making it an excellent choice for budget-conscious travelers.
Ultimately, the decision comes down to your personal preferences and priorities. If you're seeking a balance of natural beauty, cultural immersion, and affordability, Bali or Nicaragua might be the way to go. If you're willing to splurge a bit more for a truly iconic beach experience, Brazil could be the perfect choice. Whichever destination you choose, you're sure to create unforgettable memories with your partner.

I'm 34, my man is 38. He wants to go back to Costa Rica but I'd like to take him on a different experience. December, 2-3 weeks likely over xmas. Thinking of Bali, Brazil or Nicaragua. Obviously looking for beach experience. Somewhere we can do our own thing and experience a lot without breaking the bank. I've been to Thailand and Laos but wouldn't mind going to SE Asia one more time with a partner. Thoughts? Other suggestions? Votes?
