Try to find a cheap flight into a major hub, like London or Frankfurt, then take a European airline to get into Romania. Check momondo.com for flights within the EU.

Avoid Heathrow because of huge taxes and stay away from Ryan Air!!! Heard good things about Easy Jet.

Check Air Berlin from German airports.

Wizz Air and Tarom have many inexpensive intra-Europe fares. Get to a European Gateway via AIr Transat, Condor, or a scheduled carrier and then find a good fare to Bucharest on another ticket.

Budget-Friendly Travel to Romania: Saving on Flights and More
Planning a trip to Romania can be an exciting adventure, but the cost of flights can be a deterrent. To help you plan a budget-friendly trip, here are some tips on how to save money on flights and other travel expenses:
Finding Affordable Flights
- Consider flying during the off-season. July to September is a popular time to visit Romania, but prices tend to be higher. Consider traveling during the shoulder seasons (May-June or October-November) for lower airfares.
- Be flexible with your travel dates. If you can travel on weekdays or less popular days of the week, you may find cheaper flights. Try to avoid flying on weekends or during peak tourist season.
- Use flight search engines and fare alerts. Websites like Skyscanner, Google Flights, and Kayak allow you to compare prices from multiple airlines and set up fare alerts to notify you when prices drop.
- Consider flying into a different airport. Major cities like Bucharest (OTP) may have higher airfares. Check prices for flights to smaller airports in the region, such as Cluj-Napoca (CLJ) or Timisoara (TSR), which may offer lower fares.
Saving on Other Travel Expenses
- Book accommodation in advance. Hostels and guesthouses offer affordable options for budget travelers. Book your accommodation in advance, especially if traveling during peak season.
- Cook your own meals. Eating out can be expensive in Romania. Save money by purchasing groceries and cooking meals in your accommodation.
- Take advantage of free activities. Many attractions in Romania, such as parks, museums, and historical sites, offer free admission. Research free activities in advance to save money on entertainment.
- Use public transportation. Romania has a well-developed public transportation system. Use buses, trains, or trams to get around instead of renting a car, which can be more expensive.
Additional Tips
- Purchase travel insurance. Travel insurance can protect you against unexpected events, such as lost luggage or medical emergencies. It's a small investment that can provide peace of mind.
- Be prepared for hidden costs. Factor in additional expenses such as visa fees, airport taxes, and baggage fees when budgeting for your trip.
- Consider extending your stay. If you have the time, consider extending your stay in Romania. As a general rule, the longer you stay, the more you can spread out your expenses over a longer period.
By following these tips, you can save money on your trip to Romania and enjoy an unforgettable experience without breaking the bank.
