What are the top toddler-friendly vacation spots for under $5000?

Question:

Where would you go with your husband and 1 year old if you had 10 days off? Have a 1 year old that's walking but throws tantrums every now and then. Hoping for an easy direct flight or maximum 1 stop. Budget under 5000 if possible.

Mexico. Direct flight and can be fairly resonable.

Brenda i have stayed at several. Sunscape was nice and grand marvel just outside of pv were the best two we stayed at that were kid friendly. I am also an agent so if you want some help. I can email you some options based on your dates. We also stayed at oceans rivera in the mayian and they had a great kids pool but your little one may be a bit young for that one yet.

Maui. There are direct flights between Maui & Calgary depending on when you plan to go.

Venessa Fedun I was looking but flights there are so expensive. I dont mind spending money when I'm there but the flight alone will cost too much.

Profile picture of Venessa

Venessa

Brenda yeah looks like it’s around $750 round trip for the dates you’re looking for. Perhaps San Fran or LA. Palm Springs is great but the desert will be incredibly hot in August.

Profile picture of Brenda

Brenda

Venessa Fedun when I looked the flights came up to 3000+.

Brenda Then I would check out eastern canada. A hotel with a pool on ground floor so you can take monitor and relax. It will also be safe and stroller friendly and dont have to worrry about exchange. It's +30 in Halifax now!

Well I would not venture too far south in August, but whatever you like to do is your choice. I agree that Eastern Canada is a great choice. Our country has so much to explore. The Oregon coast is also one of my favourite places I have been to. It is so beautiful.

yes! You could do 10 days in New-Brunswick for example and rent an airbnb that has a baby bed so you keep your baby always sleeping at the same spot-bed-schedule that you are used to which might make your life easier.

Portugal, flights maybe more money, but the cost of food hotel and safety can not be beat:)

Mexico is great and cheap. Lots of resorts have a baby pool as well as big kids pool. Riu jalisco is great and super cheap at the moment. Also Iberostar Lindo in the Mayan. Cuba iberostar Varadaro is great and very safe. Closer by is California which has so much to see and do and great beaches to chill. Kelowna is also nice and very short flight. Lots of lake front Air B and B homes

SD is super family friendly, has the beach atmosphere, and incredibly reasonable. We’ve done that trip a couple times now with our kids.

Depends what you are looking for! If you want relaxing resort time, then an all-inclusive in Mexico. Flights to Maui are cheap BUT MAN is it expensive once you hit the ground! If you want touring and culture time, Greece/Spain/Italy but flights will cost. Plus they are in the middle of another heat wave and it will be freaking HOT during the summer. If you want nature/outdoors, Alaska would be a good match. A stay-in-Canada vaycay is a great option - Toronto/Niagara Falls/ Ottawa/Montreal, or Halifax/Cabot Trail

Vegas or Cali - quick direct flights with some awesome deals. I found Tahiti Village Resort (5*) in Vegas for 1 week for under $400 on my discount booking site! Maui is my favourite - I took my kids when they were a little older though!

SF. Easy to get around, lots to see, short flight...we took our almost 2 year old for a week and it was awesome. Union square is great to spend an afternoon letting the kid run. Golden Gate park has like 5 playgrounds and the Japanese gardens which our kid loved.

Profile picture of Kristin

I agree with this! We took our kids overseas when they were that young and it all worked well. Europe is super friendly for young ones. Depending on your travel style before kids that could slightly change, but if you take breaks for naps or they can sleep in a stroller pretty much anywhere is possible

Denise Lister I've never been a camper, we've always travelled for our vacations. We're heading to Portugal in an hour

Best vacation we ever had with a one-year-old was Disney. But it wasn't summer-busy.

Profile picture of Vella

Lots of family-friendly places to go. Hawaii, All Inclusive in MX (not during hurricane season though unless you go to Los Cabos). I think Disneyland and Disneyworld would be too young for a 1-year-old.

Profile picture of Claire

I’d go Azul Beach resort...Mexico. They are very set-up for young families there. It’s a beautiful resort, fabulous food, great beach. Fly direct into Cancun. It’s an easy holiday. Do the harder stuff when the little one is older. Have fun!

We travel to vancouver island every year with 3 young boys. Started when the last one was about 1 year. Parksville has lots of beaches and a very toddler friendly park. The flight is just over 1 hour. You don't have to worry about currency exchange. It is nice and relaxing. You can go through vrbo and get a house right on the water or save on budget and get a condo a short walk to the beach. Short drive to Goats on the roof, which you just have to experience. Marina close by to pickup the fresh catch of the day. Highly recommend buying halibut, oysters and crab to cook back at your facilities. Beautiful parks to explore. The area is laid back and relaxing. You won't regret it.

I was going to say the same. Parksville/Nanaimo area of Vancouver Island is heavenly for young families. Lots to do and you won't break the bank.

Don't laugh, okay, maybe a little. If you are talking about a summertime getaway, you can go back-to-nature about 1 hour east of Winnipeg in the Whiteshell Provincial Park. There are lots of lakes, swimming, fishing and hiking and just plain old relaxing.
Also, because everyone just celebrated Canada day, you can support our great country by travelling locally.

We just got back from San Diego with my 23 month old (stayed in an air bnb in imperial beach) I know thats a little older than yours. But the beach at imperial beach and mission beach were lovely. We also rented a car and it was super easy to get around San Diego. We explored balboa park for a day and it was great for him to run around and tire himself out. Also spent a day at the zoo. At 1 your little might sleep for the 2.5/3 hour plane ride, that’d be bliss haha.

10 Days Off with a 1-Year-Old: Where to Go?

Planning a vacation with a young child can be both exciting and challenging. When you have a limited time frame of 10 days and a budget under $5,000, finding the perfect destination that caters to your family's needs becomes crucial. With a 1-year-old who is walking but prone to occasional tantrums, you'll want to strike a balance between ease of travel and engaging activities.

Option 1: Beach Vacation in Hawaii

Hawaii is a fantastic option for families with young children. With direct flights from many major cities and a multitude of kid-friendly resorts, getting there and settling in is relatively hassle-free. The islands offer a perfect blend of relaxation and adventure. You can spend lazy days on the beach, build sandcastles, and let your little one explore the gentle waves. Hawaii also boasts a wealth of family-friendly activities, such as visiting petting zoos, exploring botanical gardens, and taking gentle hikes through lush landscapes.

Option 2: Road Trip to a National Park

If you're up for a bit of adventure, consider embarking on a road trip to one of the stunning national parks in the United States. Destinations like the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone, or Yosemite offer breathtaking natural scenery and plenty of opportunities for outdoor exploration. Many national parks have well-marked trails suitable for families with young children, and you can take breaks at scenic overlooks or picnic areas. Just be sure to pack plenty of snacks and toys to keep your little one entertained during the drives.

Option 3: City Escape to Somewhere Kid-Friendly

If you prefer an urban setting, consider a city known for its family-friendly attractions. Cities like San Diego, Chicago, or Boston offer a mix of cultural experiences, parks, and kid-friendly museums. You can explore interactive exhibits, visit zoos or aquariums, and enjoy outdoor playgrounds. Many cities also have pedestrian-friendly neighborhoods, making it easy to explore on foot with a stroller or carrier.

Regardless of your destination, be sure to pack essentials like favorite toys, snacks, and any necessary baby gear to ensure a comfortable and enjoyable trip for your little one. Remember to schedule in downtime for naps and relaxation, as overstimulation can lead to tantrums. With a little planning and flexibility, your 10-day vacation can be a memorable and cherished experience for the whole family.
