Hi there. Can I travel outside Canada without PR card? I just became a PR last month and my PR card has not arrived yet. Will be travelling to US this month. Do they require PR card before boarding? I only have my passport and confirmation of PR. Thank you in advance.

They might not let you back in the country without your pr card

Without the actual card in your hand, you must wait at least 90 days before you attempt re-entry into Canada. One of my employees just dealt with this exact issue.

It may be different driving. He's a Brazilian who just got his PR, was flying to Korea to get married. Him and his new wife (Korean with a Canadian PR) were stuck there until they had someone forward them to Korea.

Applying for travel document seemed impossble for me. I wonder if it is okay i could ask my friend in seattle to drive me across the border coz i have no car. And another question, would travel insurance would cover the cancellation fee if my reason is the delayed released of my PR card? I would appreciate any help. Thank you.

I think from the looks of it, your friends vehicle would be considered a private vehicle. Not sure about insurance though. Best to ask customer service on that one for whatever plan you have/are getting.

Can I Travel Outside Canada Without a PR Card?

If you are a permanent resident of Canada, you need a PR card to travel outside of the country. A PR card is a plastic card that proves that you are a permanent resident of Canada. It is used to identify you when you enter or leave Canada.

If you have not received your PR card yet, you can still travel outside of Canada with your passport and a Confirmation of Permanent Residence (COPR). A COPR is a document that proves that you have been approved for permanent residence in Canada. It is usually issued to you when you first arrive in Canada.

When you travel outside of Canada with a COPR, you must present it to the airline or border agent along with your passport. You may also be asked to provide proof of your address in Canada, such as a driver's license or utility bill.

It is important to note that you may not be able to board your flight if you do not have a PR card or a COPR. It is also important to keep your PR card and COPR in a safe place, as they are important documents.

Do I need a PR card to travel to the US?

If you are a permanent resident of Canada, you do not need a PR card to travel to the United States. You can use your passport and a valid US visa to enter the United States.

However, it is important to note that you may be asked to present your PR card when you enter the United States, even if you are not required to have one. It is a good idea to keep your PR card with you when you travel to the United States, just in case.

Conclusion

If you are a permanent resident of Canada, you need a PR card to travel outside of the country. If you have not received your PR card yet, you can still travel outside of Canada with your passport and a COPR. It is important to keep your PR card and COPR in a safe place, as they are important documents.
