Where can British Columbians camp near Bow Valley Parkway in Alberta?

Question:

Hi there...looking for recommendations. I would like to do a day trip/cycle of a portion of the Bow Valley Parkway. I understand that British Columbians are not allowed to camp in Alberta. Does anyone have any recommendations on options (hopefully affordable) for camping/places to stay for a bc’er that might make this idea a reality? I also have car camping as an option; if there are any spots that you might know of/recommend that would be super appreciated.

I believe that they cannot make reservations. They can camp if there is free space when they arrive.

We camped in the kananaskis area in Alberta recently but in the overflow area as campsites were full. If it’s later on in September when kids are back in school I think you shouldn’t have a problem in National parks to camp

We (BCers) just spent a week camping in Yoho National Park, which is part of the seamless collection -- no space between them -- of national parks, two in Alberta (Banff & Jasper), two in BC (Yoho & Kootenay). One day we drove over to Lake Louise, part of Banff and in BC. Can't say for sure, but nobody was asking provinces at all. All over, there were licenses from every province in Canada. Perhaps it's different in provincial parks, but within national parks, it looks like all are welcome.

You have to be kidding that people from BC can’t camp in Alberta. I think half of Alberta has been here this summer

We can't camp in their provincial parks this summer just like they can't camp in ours. I think national parks are still fair game as are many private campgrounds.

True... National parks belong to the whole country. Provincial parks to each individual province who can set their own rules.

Hey everyone that replied...I was just thinking about some of my best memories of this past year and one big highlight was my trip to Banff and the camping at a national park and my bike adventure down and up the bow valley parkway and my hike to the ink pots. Thank you so much for your information and for Chris for creating and moderating this page...thank you all for making this dream a reality and a wonderful memory!
