If you want talk/text/data - try roam mobility. If you only want data on the SIM card - try AlwaysOnlineWireless ... both by the same company. You can order the SIM ahead of time, load it - and set the activation date for when you arrive abroad.

We rented an airbnb near hilo. Great quiet beaches on that side where turtles came every day. It's only a 2hr drive from 1 side of the island to the other so you will have lots of time to do it all! Carl Smith beach is the best swim ,snorkel and relax. And do the night snorkel with mantaray my 11year old LOVED and we did to.

Do you use Bell? They have a plan where you use your own plan for data (unlimited text and call), in USA, for $8 CAD a day. It was the best option for me whenever I go there.

If your phone is unlocked, you can buy a SIM card and a tourist plan at T-mobile. Last time we went to the US and cruise we paid US $50 for card and plan. We got a local number, unlimited text and calls plus 10gigs of data. You can go anywhere in the US (and Mexico) and it works. It looks like Kona has 2 T-Mobile locations if you’re interested.

Order a Straight Talk SIM online (~$1US) and have it mailed to wherever you are staying (or a border drop if you are close). You then just need WiFi access when you get there to then activate it with a plan of your choosing. For example we went with the $90US for unlimited data plan for 2 phones for 30 days.
