Which Resorts in Cuba are Best for Families?

Depends on what you are accustomed too and what you have experienced before in all inclusive hotels! I hate the star rating system but a fast way to eliminate the hotels you don't want, search for 5 star hotels and that will be more in line with where you've gone to before in Mexico, Jamaica, Dominican, etc. varadero is older and more dates hotels, other Cuban destinations have newer resorts that may reflect more what your expectations are. The food is always going to be the biggest variable. Food isn't typically that good and tend to be repetitive. Other areas like Cayo Coco, Cayo Santa Maria and Holguin are more secluded and have more vegetation surrounding them so bugs may be more prevalent then party town Varadero! I would recommend to stay clear of Flying or doing business with sunwing/Signature Vacation.

What would you recommend to book with?
Lary
Anyone BUT sunwing! They (as well as Transat) are considered charter carrier even though they publish a schedule for their flights. The difference between a Scheduled Carrier (ie.: westjet and air canada) and Charter carrier (like sunwing and Transat) is that Scheduled carrier have more flights and more aircrafts so when sh%$ hit the fan and flights are delayed or cancelled, they have other flights they can re-accommodate you on OR they can use their "Spare" aircraft that sit around for stuff like this and limiting your wasted holiday time. Charters can't afford to have planes sitting on the ground so delays are longer and you can loose more holiday times on the beach. That's operationally what happen, if we start talking about service and how you are treated and handled , well they are still the worst in communicating when things happen. Transat is way better the sunwing on that front but we'll agree that westjet is still the best way to go when you lay down several thousands dollars for a holiday!

So we spend time in Cayo Coco. We love it. We stay at 4 or 5 star hotels and I always email the hotel directly, after booking, and request their most recently renovated room with the best view. I also mention if there is anything I can do for them please let me know. Once a mans facial razor got us a week in the penthouse!
Terri
You do what now? We are going to Cayo Santa Maria in 27 days so could you give me some more info on how you do this?
Tara
it started because I read sone reviews about our hotel and mold. the reviews said there were renovated and non renovated rooms. I thought " how do I ensure I get a renovated rom? So I emailed the hotel directly from their website and asked for a renovated room. I than said " and if there is anything I can do for you please let me know" A guy returned my email and said he would look into my request and asked if I would bring him a razor. we arrived late at night and we checked into the penthouse. it came with fresh beach towels every day. The next day I went to the front desk and asked for the man, he came out and I handed him the razor ( incognito like) and thankEd hm for the room. I have sent that same email every time we go now. The requests are always small, like, perfume, a mans fashion watch, and once a Spider-Man toy
Terri
Sweet I am definitely going to try that!! Thanks!
Iva
How far in advance of arrival do you send this email to the hotel? And thank you for sharing this great tip. I want to try it for my trip in March but seems too early right now.
Tara
The earlier the better. This only works if the suites are available so you need to get the room assigned to you ASAP
Iva
Thank you so much !! I will write them today.

We enjoyed Memories Caribe Cayo Coco. We upgraded to the Junior Suite and it was perfect for our family (it's half of a private little house rather than a hotel room).
Tanya
Thanks for this. Was thinking of taking my son here, and will book soon.

I travel to Cuba frequently and just got back on Sunday. Cuba is very safe and nothing has changed regarding America and their relations.
Cayo coco is beautiful, the Melia and Iberostar are ones I recommend.
In varadero Cuatro Palmas, Tuxpan, Barcelo Solymar, and Melia are all beautiful hotels. I hope this helps

We absolutely LOVED Playa Pesquero and Blau Costa Verde (there are 3 resorts on this gorgeous stretch of beach, but we haven't stayed at Playa Costa Verde, yet!) Fly into Holguin and then it's less than a 1 hour bus ride (you get to see the countryside!) Gorgeous.
