Has Anyone Used Europcar for a Rental Car in Paris?

Question:

Does anyone have a recommendation for a rental car in Paris? My research is showing Europcar for the best price, wondering if anyone has used them before and has pos/neg experience? (Pls don't come at with "Take the train!", it is MUCH more expensive for our particular journey)

We used Europcar in France (out of Avignon) and they were friendly, the car was great, and the price was reasonable.

My experience at Heathrow last year means I will personally not use them worldwide ever again. Under considerable duress I was forced to accept paying £299.88 of additional insurance which I absolutely did not want or need (I had insured independently). The rental agent, and the branch manager would not allow me to take the car until I had signed the contract for this additional payment. Subsequently, their "customer service" was worse than useless, refusing to believe that I was telling the truth about what happened. I believe the agent singled me as a target as I was alone, and had just come off a long flight; what is worse is that the branch manager colluded in this fraud. I also believe they knew that, because I had booked through an agency and not direct, I had no recourse to complain to the two agencies (EU and trade association) who regulate car hire companies. The most distasteful experience I have had whilst travelling in a very long time.

Margaret happened to us at Manchester Airport UK. Wouldn’t give us the keys until we paid additional insurance we did not leave. Have never used them again....not a great situation after a 9 hour flight.

And, Kyra, we are not alone - there are several other examples when you check their reviews

Take a quick train to a small town with train station that has rental cars(Europcar is great), and start journey from there. Trying to navigate out of Paris is time consuming and stressful.

Sixt worked out very well for us and we did a road trip to the countryside from Paris. Tip: regardless of which which car rental company you book with, make sure to have your passport with you when you pickup the car - it’s required.

If you are going for more than two weeks or so.......... Renault Eurodrive or the Peugot equivalent.
Never use Avis ..... They left us stranded in a broken Micra on the Italian border for over 24 hours before sending out a tow truck.
Horrendous.... Ever try to sleep in a Micra when you are 6'2" and 300 lbs? With accompanying much smaller wife?
It isn't as roomy as it sounds....
Then we had to pay our own way from Trieste to
Nice by train to get a replacement car TWO DAYS later..
I now recommend Avis to people I HATE!!

Probably cheaper to buy a small car. Whatever you sell it for when you leave would be a bonus

3 years ago we toured Europe using Europe car , but because we were over 31 day it became a leave. We got a brand new car, fully insured for everything and able to pick up in one place drop in another. Total cost under 2300 Canadian. If we had any problems we would have been given another brand new car asap we were totally pleased with them
