Question:

What about Okinawa
Taylor
What about Okinawa? It's a short, cheap flight from Japan so you can just do a return flight.
Lol. Beat by a second
Mandy
I was going to mention Okinawa too lol
Charles
My son and I took a G Adventure tour of Japan a couple of years ago ...with extra days in Tokyo ...... small group ...knowledgeable guide .....
Karla
We mixed in Thailand. It was a good mix between urban and tropics
Karla
I know a lot of people who do Korea as well. That’s a short flight
Sarah
Karla what was a rough itinerary for your trip?
Denise
We did Tokyo and then went to Okinawa for a few days. STUNNING beaches.
Sarah
Denise awesome! In Okinawa is there still some
Good food? Any recommendations on places to stay?
Denise
Sarah Neeb we did an airbnb. Accommodations are Very expensive in Okinawa. Some great seafood and sushi in okinawa for sure. You will need to rent a car.
Denise
It is the other side of the road. But you will get the hang of it in 30 seconds. Roads are good and signage easy to follow.
Joanne
Yes Okinawa then take a ferry to Tokashiki island! Then you'll be at one of the nicest beaches!! Check it out on the map!
Sarah
Joanne thanks ! How many nights do you think we would need there at a minimum?
Joanne
Sarah Neeb probably 3 nights. We went to Aharen beach on Tokashiki. In Okinawa we stayed at Daiwa Roynet hotel by makishi station if that helps. There are other things to do in okinawa too. You just have to look it up.
Joanne
You can also check out and stay 1-2 nights in Hakone for the onsen
Joanne
I would also recommend Okinawa and Iriomote Island. Japan has some gorgeous beaches and for sure Okinawa will be warm enough in May. It's not the same beach scene you get in Thailand, for example, and more expensive, but more of a natural and cultural experience.

Busan is not South East Asia so better not expect it to be warm enough for a nice beach time around in May yet. I'd recommend you to either stick with Japan to try Okinawa or fly to Vietnam!
Jamie
Or actually if you feel like trying Korea still you can check out Jeju Island and it should be warmer than Busan and it's more like a vacation destination than Busan cause Busan is the second largest Korean city.

When I lived in Japan (ahem, 8 yrs ago so maybe outdated) a discount Philippines airline, Cebu Pacific flew from Osaka and it was very cheap! So if you’re around the Osaka/Kyoto area it may be worth it if you have your eye set on the Philippines. I didn’t like Manila but so many other beautiful spots and domestic flights were cheap and convenient too
Afreen
We just did Japan and taiwan. Taipei is a less than 2 hour flight from Osaka
Barbara
They have fab beaches in Japan too you know
Ken
It’s a bit of a hike to south east Asia. Worth it if you are heading home from SEA but a real hassle if you have to fly back to Japan to transfer home. Why not go to Okinawa! Their beaches are as good as those found in Boracay. And Okinawa does not feel like Japan. They people and their demeanour is completely different from the main island: they laugh, very musical and super tanned and quite small. And you van island hop as well. Epic islands and beaches. From Okinawa you can take a quick trip to Taiwan. Should be quite hot there at that time. Taiwan is a great country to visit.
If you want to try a really unique experience that very few tourists try, spend a few days in Aogashima. It’s stunning! It’s actually part of Tokyo prefecture. If you look it up you will see why that is a bit of a surprise lol if you go I suggest you take a helicopter
Sarah
Ken lol looks a bit small but seems like a cool adventure !
Ed
16 days is not enough time to do 2 different countries in my opinion. Japan has so much to see. We did 3 weeks in Phillipines alone and it was not enough with the travel times.
Stick to Japan and you will have a better time
Zbigniew
Okinawa then Zamami jima and Aka jima.

Combining Japan with Southeast Asia for the Ultimate Vacation
Japan is an incredible destination, offering a unique blend of rich culture, stunning natural beauty, and modern innovation. However, if you're seeking a vacation that also includes some relaxing beach time and immersion in nature, consider combining your trip to Japan with a visit to one of the beautiful destinations in Southeast Asia.
Why Southeast Asia?
Southeast Asia is renowned for its stunning beaches, lush tropical landscapes, and diverse cultures. From the pristine islands of Thailand and the Philippines to the vibrant cities of Singapore and Kuala Lumpur, this region offers a wealth of experiences to complement your time in Japan.
Popular Options for Combining Japan and Southeast Asia
-
Busan, South Korea
Busan is a coastal city in South Korea, known for its beautiful beaches, seafood, and historical sites. It's a relatively short flight from major cities in Japan, making it a convenient option for adding a few days of relaxation to your trip. You can enjoy the stunning Haeundae Beach, explore the Gamcheon Culture Village, and indulge in delicious Korean cuisine.
-
The Philippines
The Philippines is a paradise for beach lovers and nature enthusiasts. With its countless islands, crystal-clear waters, and vibrant marine life, it's an ideal destination for those seeking a tropical escape. Popular destinations include Boracay, Palawan, and Cebu. While the flight time from Japan can be longer, the stunning natural beauty and warm hospitality make it well worth the journey.
-
Bali, Indonesia
Bali is a renowned island destination in Indonesia, offering a perfect blend of stunning beaches, lush rice terraces, and rich cultural heritage. From the iconic Tanah Lot temple to the breathtaking Ubud rice fields, Bali promises an unforgettable experience. The flight time from Japan is manageable, making it a viable option for adding a few days of relaxation to your Japanese adventure.
Tips for Planning Your Combined Trip
- Consider the flight times and connections to ensure a smooth transition between destinations.
- Research the best time to visit each location based on weather conditions and cultural events.
- Plan your itinerary carefully, allowing for ample time to explore both Japan and your chosen Southeast Asian destination.
- Book accommodations and transportation in advance to avoid any last-minute hassles.
- Be mindful of cultural differences and customs, and respect the local traditions.
By combining Japan with a Southeast Asian destination, you can create an unforgettable vacation that offers the perfect balance of cultural immersion, natural beauty, and relaxation. Whether you choose to visit Busan, the Philippines, Bali, or another stunning location, you'll return home with memories that will last a lifetime.

Hi!
I’m looking to book the Japan deal for travel in May for about 16 days. I’m very interested in visiting Japan (friends in Tokyo and some time in Kyoto) but I also really enjoy vacations that include some relaxing beach/nature time. Has anyone combined Japan with a few nights somewhere in south east Asia that doesn’t make the amount of flying time to long ? Possibly looked at busan or the Philippines but I’m not sure if it’s worth the hassle.
Thanks !
