How can I get from Cancun airport to my Tulum Airbnb without a taxi?

We caught a bus from Cancun to Merida and then hired a car from Merida. The buses are super comfortable. I'd recommend booking the car for pickup from the Merida airport as all the downtown ones don't actually keep cars on site and after 2 hours or phaffing around, they told us to take a taxi to the airport to get the hire car. Also, be aware credit card car rental insurance won't give you coverage in Mexico. I don't think it's that it won't happen ..it's that the Mexicans won't recognise it
But there is a lot to see between Merida and Tulum so a rental car is good.

Can’t you just rent a car in Cancun? What’s the point of driving in the opposite direction to get a car in Merida then driving back the other way to Tulum? Seems redundant..
Sally
*shrug* It worked for us because staying in Merida a few days was part of our agenda. If someone does not want to check out things around Merida, then makes sense to rent car from Cancun or Playa del Carmen etc. I doubt the insurance issue is any different...but for sure, some resorts will have car rental and some won't and if they don't, maybe renting from Cancun airport is best.
Well. That complicates the whole story! It was so simple when we went Cancun - Merida - Playa del Carmen by bus, with car rental detour to Tulum in the middle!

Sally Tulum is not geographically in the middle…

Once you leave the airport past the taxi drivers will be buses (very cheap vs taxi) they have a new location but try Eufemia near beach.

Honestly anywhere the local eat is delicious, even the taco carts around town at night/evening are great.

Take the Ado bus! We just took this to PDC from Cancun airport 2 weeks ago (and back). Could not be easier/cheaper! Buy a ticket when you pass the red counter in the airport and head outside to the bus area. Stops in PDC then straight to Tulum, grab a taxi from there to your rental.
Francine
ADO bus definitely! Cheap and easy. Ticket counter (red kiosk) in the airport just before you go outside to the mayhem. Lol

Getting to Your Airbnb from Cancun Airport
Instead of taking a taxi from Cancun Airport to your Airbnb in Tulum, consider taking the ADO bus. ADO is a reliable and affordable bus service that runs frequently between Cancun Airport and Tulum. The bus stop is conveniently located just outside the airport terminal, and the journey takes around 1.5 to 2 hours, depending on traffic conditions.
To take the ADO bus, simply purchase your ticket from the ADO counter at the airport or online in advance. The cost is around 200-300 Mexican pesos (approximately $10-$15 USD) for a one-way ticket.
