San Gervasio are the ruins to visit in Cozumel. You can also go into El Cedral which was the first town on the island and where they held the first catholic mass in Mexico. When are you going? There is a festival to celebrate this the last weekend of April and into the first few days of May. Google El Cedral for more details. Chankanaab is the national park. It has great snorkelling, all inclusive food and drink option and lots to do from sea lion show to zip lines. Do you have children? I have young children and playa mia is our favourite beach resort to visit. Lots of water slides for toddlers.

There’s a guy on the side of the road up that way with horses. Literally just tied under a tree. Looks sketchy. I forget his name. But it’s actually awesome! We got like a private horse ride through some jungle and on the beach for $35 US for an hour. If you feel like a horseback ride!! Gotta barter or ask a taxi driver to take you to him and get that price
my parents have a house down there and I go every year

We rented a little convertible type car and drove around the island exploring. It was like a cross between a go cart and a real car. I don't know what it's called. Anyways you can rent scooters too. It was great because the island isn't as small as I was expecting and every beach is unique in its own way.

Best scuba diving in the Caribbean! If you don't dive also excellent snorkeling. Rent a car or hire a taxi if you don't want to designate a driver and go to Bob Marleys Rasta Bar and Coconuts on the east coast. Coconuts margs are the real thing!

DONT rent a vehicle unless you’ve seen it first. Our Jeep we rented had no seatbelts... no speedometer no airbags... completely unsafe. We were stupid and didn’t realize a lot of these and other issues until we started driving...
Nothing happened and it’s now just a funny story to tell... but... walk to a car rental lot first. Look at what’s available to rent INSIDE and OUT. Don’t pay for something at a kiosk from a laminated pages binder with photos of vehicles and prices. Go to the rental lot.

Discovering the Best of Cozumel: A Traveler's Guide

Cozumel, a picturesque island off the coast of Mexico's Yucatan Peninsula, is a veritable paradise for travelers seeking a blend of natural beauty, rich history, and cultural immersion. With its crystal-clear waters, vibrant coral reefs, and ancient Mayan ruins, this Caribbean gem promises an unforgettable experience. As you embark on your journey to Cozumel, here are some must-see attractions and activities to make the most of your visit.

Snorkeling and Scuba Diving

Cozumel is renowned for its world-class snorkeling and scuba diving opportunities. The island's crystal-clear waters and abundant marine life make it a prime destination for underwater exploration. Whether you're a beginner or an experienced diver, the coral reefs teeming with colorful fish, turtles, and vibrant coral formations will leave you awestruck. Don't miss the iconic El Cielo (Heaven) and Palancar Reef, which are considered among the best dive sites in the world.

Explore the San Gervasio Ruins

Step back in time and immerse yourself in the rich history of the ancient Maya civilization. The San Gervasio Ruins, located on the island's northern side, offer a glimpse into the past. Wander through the well-preserved remains of temples, plazas, and residential structures, and learn about the fascinating culture and traditions of the Maya people. Don't forget to visit the on-site museum to gain a deeper understanding of this ancient civilization.

Discover Punta Sur Eco Beach Park

Escape the hustle and bustle of the island and venture into the serene Punta Sur Eco Beach Park. This nature reserve boasts pristine beaches, lush mangrove forests, and a variety of hiking trails that offer stunning views of the coastline. Keep an eye out for the diverse wildlife, including crocodiles, iguanas, and an array of exotic bird species. The park also features fascinating historical sites, such as the El Celerain Lighthouse and the Museo de la Navegacion, which delve into Cozumel's maritime past.

Embrace the Island's Culinary Delights

No visit to Cozumel is complete without indulging in the island's mouthwatering cuisine. From fresh seafood caught straight from the Caribbean Sea to authentic Mexican dishes bursting with flavors, Cozumel's culinary scene is a treat for the senses. Be sure to sample local specialties like ceviche, cochinita pibil (slow-roasted pork), and mouthwatering tacos al pastor. Don't forget to wash it all down with a refreshing margarita or a sip of mezcal, Mexico's iconic agave-based spirit.

Whether you're seeking adventure, cultural immersion, or simply a chance to unwind on pristine beaches, Cozumel has something to offer for every traveler. Embrace the island's vibrant spirit, and create lasting memories that will stay with you long after your journey ends.
