Calfornex Chinook or Downtown. I've been told by two banks their rates are better than the banks

If you want to take out more cash in Japan, you can only use your international debit or credit cards at 7-11 and SOMETIMES at "Lawson" convenience stores. Since Japan is cash based, you will likely find yourself needing more Yen. Have fun!

Thanks! I've been burnt by one of the big 4 Canada bank's ATM card in Europe (simply doesn't work at all). I'll ensure that I have a reasonable amt of Yen before I leave.

You have to look for the symbol on your card to also be on the ATM - Cirrus, for example.

Agreed, 7-11s there worked when I was there 2 years ago.

Also, Be aware of any daily cash limits you may have with your bank, you may have to pull money out several times when you are there.

We actually called and confirmed that we should be able to use the ATM at the Barclay bank... Just didn't work at all. Called the CSR when we are home and the bank didn't know why...

Pre order from your bank. I bet you can't beat the rate.

calforex in Chinook. Better rates then the banks!
I'd actually just wait till you find a ATM in Japan. That's what I did. Worked fine. Good exchange rate, as the banks there work on the daily exchange rate, and rarely charge an extra fee!

thanks .. I'll just take a small portion. Last time I was stranded in London UK when the ATM card refused to cooperate.

Where to Get Yen for a Good Rate in Calgary

Planning a trip to Japan is exciting, but one of the important things to consider is how to get Japanese Yen at a good rate in Calgary. Here are some options to consider:

1. Banks

One of the most common ways to exchange currency is through banks. Most major banks in Calgary offer currency exchange services where you can buy Japanese Yen. While banks are convenient, they may not always offer the best exchange rates.

2. Currency Exchange Kiosks

Another option is to use currency exchange kiosks located in malls, airports, and tourist areas. These kiosks often offer competitive rates and are convenient for quick exchanges.

3. Online Currency Exchange Services

If you prefer to exchange currency online, there are several websites that offer competitive rates for buying Japanese Yen. Make sure to compare rates and fees before making a transaction.

4. Local Credit Unions

Some local credit unions in Calgary may offer currency exchange services at better rates than traditional banks. It's worth checking with them to see if they can provide a good deal on Japanese Yen.

5. ATMs in Japan

Once you arrive in Japan, you can also use ATMs to withdraw Japanese Yen. Make sure to check with your bank beforehand to see if they have partnerships with any Japanese banks to avoid high withdrawal fees.

Remember to plan ahead and exchange some currency before your trip to avoid any last-minute hassles. Have a great time in Japan!

Safe travels!
