There was an amazing restaurant but I can’t recall the name, all open front, all the locals went there, line up at night and it was towards the water. Ask the locals where to go, that was the best way we found amazing restaurants!
Vanessa
Andeles!
Lisa
Vanessa I wouldn’t head there with kids
Vanessa
During the day is fine
Tania
Wow thanks everyone!
Laurel
Lots of carts along malecon also, with tacos, churros etc.

I can recommend and amazing place up the hill a bit with spectacular views. Best food also. Barcelona Tapas. Make a Rez. Don’t eat on the malecon. Not much other than an Italian place that all the tourists get taken too. Further down close to the water side is Blue Shrimp but if you want sunset views and great food Barcelona Tapas is a must
Hilary
I second Barcelona Tapas
Lana
The Day Off Bar was awesome! Super friendly and great with the kids (we have 4 & 8 yr old)
Tamara
Ive been to Barcelona Tapas, its good, BUT Layla's is MUCH better and more authentic. They have a facebook page, check em out!
Connie
Try Kelly’s Pour Favor Saloon & cookhouse at the end of the Malecon in Old Vallarta.
Tara
Archie’s wok / although it is Thai. Food and amazing at that
Cholera has the best seafood soup just off the malecon
Try street
Tacos if you want real Mexican !!
Cheeky monkey is great for the view
Louise
Go to the old town to eat (Romantic Zone). Cafe de Olla or El Brujo are great.

My only recommendation is please do not go to pipi’s is not authentic at all all gringos goes there is expensive and do not support them I went and had big regret there are so many great restaurants around zona romántica to chose from like La Cappella with beautiful view and music or Gaby’s or go to beautiful coffee place called Vallarta factory
Jeannett
Dawnn totally agree. Pipis is such a fake tourist trap. Gabys is real mexican food. I still vote for Barcelona Tapas. Can’t beat the view and amazing service too. Not mexican good but then again neither is Blue Shrimp which is think is overpriced also
Daphne
if you want really good food and don't want the price if Pipi's go to Pepe's. We went there accidentally looking for Pipi's. It is,a much more authentic experience and cheaper
Tania
Daphne thanks my cousin also recommended Pepe’s
Erin
Not sure if it’s in that area but the best EVER (I still dream about it) was Fajita Republic. https://www.tripadvisor.ca/Restaurant_Review-g150793...

Over the bridge into old town... La Ronda! The best food.....

Authentic Restaurant Recommendations in Puerto Vallarta
If you're looking for a more authentic dining experience on the Malecon in Puerto Vallarta, there are plenty of options to choose from that cater to both adults and kids. One highly recommended restaurant is El ArrayƔn, which offers traditional Mexican cuisine in a cozy and welcoming atmosphere. The menu features a variety of dishes made with fresh, local ingredients, and there are options for even the pickiest eaters.
Another great option is La Palapa, a beachfront restaurant with stunning views of the ocean. The menu here is a mix of traditional Mexican dishes and international cuisine, so there's something for everyone in the family to enjoy. Plus, the kids will love playing in the sand while you relax with a delicious meal.
As for must-see sights in Puerto Vallarta, be sure to visit the iconic Church of Our Lady of Guadalupe, stroll along the Malecon boardwalk to take in the vibrant street art and sculptures, and explore the charming cobblestone streets of the Zona Romantica. For a fun and educational experience, consider visiting the Vallarta Botanical Gardens or taking a boat tour to see the famous Los Arcos rock formations.
With so much to see and do in Puerto Vallarta, your day trip from Nuevo Vallarta is sure to be a memorable one for the whole family. Enjoy your time exploring this beautiful destination!

Looking for reccomendations for a restaurant in Puerto Vallarta on the Malecon. Not like a Senor Frogs, maybe a bit more authentic! We are staying in Nuevo Vallarta, but wanting to do a day trip to PV. We have 2 kids age 5 and 8. Any other must have sights to see? Thanks!
