From Paris, it's a close train trip to Amsterdam, which is a super fun city to visit. Then from A'dam, you could fly to somewhere in Eastern Europe. Prague is easily the most beautiful city I've been to and very cheap! Copenhagen is also a very cool city, but quite expensive compared to other parts of Europe.
James
Thanks dana
Linda
Dana, Were you buying flights last minute or in advance? If in advance, how much in advance?
Dana
Linda I always aim to book in advance. I find the prices are better. Air travel within Europe is usually very affordable. For instance, one-way flight, London to Copenhagen was $60, including checked luggage and seat selection. RyanAir, EasyJet, Vueling, Norwegian Air are just a few of the airlines that offer low fares. Thanks.

If you plan to travel by rail, buy the eurorail pass before you go. Then you just need to reserve your seats as you go, and it is much more affordable than paying 'day of' during your travels.

I found flying was the cheapest and the fastest way of transportation depending on the destinations. Some companies offer bus transportation between countries like busabout’s hop on hop off system. Check out some of the pre packaged tours on busabout, topdeck, contiki and gadventures for ideas.
Italy has La Tomatina happening at the end of August.

Italy's train system is amazing and cheap. As well, go to Prague - a beautiful City.
Linda
I’m looking into this too and finding bus travel is simpler and cheaper depending on the country. I welcome comments on this idea, thanks.

Seat61.com is the best advice for trains regarding rail tickets vs rail pass. In my opinion, cheap tickets best discount air night trains are good option as well.

Hi James, my last Euro Trip was to Sweden, which is absolutely beautiful. I highly recommend it if you enjoy exploring beautiful architecture, landscapes, and people! Stockholm and Visby were the highlights of my stay. In August you may be able to enjoy the midnight sun! I flew in and found train, ferry, and plane all to be affordable and easy to access options.
James
I have some friends in sweden, Really considering it!

If you know some locals it's a must see! I have a friend that lives in Stockholm, she drove me out to the country and around the coast, it's natural beauty is a lovely sight. So much history, castles to explore, museums and exhibits, and amazing food/fun. It was one of the pricier trips I've been on, so I simply shortened my stay and made the most of the 2 weeks I had there!

Must-See Countries and Cities in Europe
If you're planning a trip to Europe in the month of August, there are so many amazing countries and cities to explore. Since you've already seen most of France and Spain, here are some other must-see destinations:
Italy
Italy is a must-visit country in Europe, with iconic cities like Rome, Florence, and Venice. You can explore ancient ruins, indulge in delicious Italian cuisine, and relax on the beautiful Amalfi Coast.
Germany
Germany is another great destination with cities like Berlin, Munich, and Hamburg. You can experience the history and culture of Germany, visit beautiful castles, and enjoy the vibrant nightlife.
Switzerland
Switzerland is known for its stunning landscapes, including the Swiss Alps and picturesque lakes. Cities like Zurich and Geneva offer a mix of modernity and tradition, making it a unique destination to explore.
Transportation
For traveling between countries in Europe, the Eurail pass is a convenient option. It allows you to travel by train to multiple destinations with ease. You can also consider budget airlines for shorter distances or renting a car for more flexibility.
Whatever countries and cities you choose to visit, Europe is sure to offer you an unforgettable experience. Have a great trip!
