Question:

Looking at Manchu Pichu next year. Looking for recommendations as to which tour group to go with? Pros and Cons to the hike up the trail versus a 2-3 day excursion to visit it. Plus any other recommendations for areas to visit in Peru.

I did the Lares trek through G Adventures and would highly recommend. Less travelled than the Inca Trail and so spectacular. After the trek, you take the train to Machu Pichu. If you're into hiking, it's a great experience.

Inca Trail to Machu Picchu with G adventures. You get to see so many Inca sites along the way without the crowds. Just visiting by bus isn't the same at all. Just one more tourist cattle herd experience. G were the only ones that looked like the porters had decent equipment and were treated better than most.

We did the 4 day Inca Trail to Machu Picchu in 2013. After a stupid amount of research, we chose SAS Travel as our tour company over Llama Path and G Adventures and we don't regret anything.

If you're going that far, look into the this. We did it after the Inca Trail and it was fantastic. http://www.perunature.com/.../tambopata-research-center.../

We used Llamapath for the whole 3 weeks. Absolutely no problem. Be sure to give yourself time to get used to altitude. We also did the Tambopata research centre, homestay, etc.

Don't miss the Nasca lines and if possible head into the jungle overcrowded Andes. So much to see in Peru. Loma has some amazing museums nightlife and beaches. Inca Trail with G Adventures was a once in a life time event. Also Lake Titacaca is a don't miss.

Lima has a free light/music show downtown every night. Well worth going to. Right, Nasca Lines was worth going to.

I did the Classic Peru trek with G Adventures and it was an amazing trip. The guides were awesome and I got to see a lot of Peru. Hiking the Inca Trail is one of my all-time favourite travel memories. I didn't get to see the Nasca lines but Peru is such an amazing country, with wonderful people, that I'll just have to go back for another trip.

We did a full 3 week tour of Peru with Intrepid Adventures. Great guides, awesome experience and would highly recommend. Regardless of the hike you take, it's worth the experience, don't just ride a bus and watch the experience... Live it.

<p>Exploring Machu Picchu: A Comprehensive Guide

Exploring Machu Picchu: A Comprehensive Guide

Machu Picchu, the legendary Incan citadel perched high in the Andes Mountains of Peru, is a must-visit destination for every traveler. As you plan your trip for next year, one crucial decision you'll need to make is choosing the right tour group and deciding whether to take the challenging hike or opt for a more leisurely 2-3 day excursion.

Tour Group Recommendations

Finding a reputable and experienced tour group is essential for a seamless and unforgettable Machu Picchu experience. Here are a few recommendations to consider:

  • G Adventures

Pros: Offers small group tours, sustainable travel practices, knowledgeable guides, and a variety of hiking options.

Cons: Can be slightly more expensive than some other operators.

  • Intrepid Travel

Pros: Focuses on responsible tourism, supports local communities, and provides unique cultural experiences.

Cons: Limited availability for certain tours during peak seasons.

  • Peru Treks

Pros: Local Peruvian company with experienced guides, customizable itineraries, and excellent support services.

Cons: Limited group size options, and some tours may be more budget-friendly.

Hike vs. 2-3 Day Excursion

The decision to hike the Inca Trail or take a more relaxed 2-3 day excursion depends on your fitness level, time constraints, and travel preferences.

  • Hiking the Inca Trail

Pros: An unforgettable and challenging 4-day trek through stunning scenery, ancient ruins, and diverse landscapes, culminating at the breathtaking Sun Gate entrance to Machu Picchu.

Cons: Requires a high level of physical fitness, permits are limited, and it can be more expensive than other options.

  • 2-3 Day Excursion

Pros: More relaxed pace, suitable for travelers with varying fitness levels, and often includes visits to other nearby attractions like Cusco and the Sacred Valley.

Cons: Limited time at Machu Picchu itself, and you may miss out on the sense of accomplishment from hiking the Inca Trail.

Other Recommended Areas to Visit in Peru

While Machu Picchu is the crown jewel of Peru, don't miss out on these other incredible destinations:

  • Cusco

The former capital of the Inca Empire, Cusco
