Hi, I'm looking for advice on United flights from YVR to New Orleans (MSY) via Houston (IAH) in Nov.
I'm worried about the connecting flight at IAH. We'll have a baby with us so want to make sure we'll make our flights!
Is 1hr 5 min sufficient to get through the terminals from IAH to MSY? … See more

I just did two flights connecting through Houston last week. The first one we had to clear customs in Houston (as customs in Vancouver was closed when our flight left Vancouver) so it took a long time and 5 minutes definitely would not be enough time. On our return flight connecting through Houston we too had five minutes to connect...we made it but only because the first flight arrive 20 minutes early. Houston airport is huge and we had to take a 'sky train' between terminals for the flights. I wouldn't recommend such close connections.

We travel through Houston lots, and I think an hour is p.ushing it

Oops...I missed the hour part and only noticed the 'minutes'

Agreed, 65 min is not enough time. Too much stress trying to make it happen, esp. with a baby where 'anything' can happen.

United Flights from YVR to MSY with a Baby

Hi there! I'm happy to help you with your question about United flights from YVR to MSY via Houston (IAH).

I understand that you're worried about the connecting flight at IAH, especially since you'll have a baby with you. I'm happy to provide you with some information that may help you make a decision about whether or not 1 hour and 5 minutes is sufficient time to make your connecting flight.

Connecting at IAH

IAH is a large airport, but it is well-connected and easy to navigate. There are several ways to get from one terminal to another, including the AirTrain, which is a free shuttle train that runs between all of the terminals.

The AirTrain is the fastest way to get between terminals, and it takes about 10 minutes to travel from one end of the airport to the other. If you're traveling with a baby, you may want to take the AirTrain to avoid having to walk long distances.

In addition to the AirTrain, there are also shuttle buses that run between the terminals. The shuttle buses are slower than the AirTrain, but they are also free to use.

Time to Make the Connection

The amount of time it takes to make a connection at IAH will vary depending on a number of factors, including the time of day, the day of the week, and the number of people traveling.

However, as a general rule of thumb, you should allow yourself at least 60 minutes to make a connecting flight at IAH. This will give you enough time to get off your first flight, collect your luggage, and check in for your connecting flight.

In your case, you have 1 hour and 5 minutes to make your connection. This is a tight connection, but it is possible to make it if you are prepared.

Tips for Making a Tight Connection

Here are a few tips for making a tight connection at IAH:

  • Check in for your connecting flight online or at a kiosk before you arrive at the airport.
  • Have your boarding pass and ID ready when you arrive at the airport.
  • Go directly to your gate when you arrive at the airport.
  • Be prepared to run if you need to.

If you're worried about making your connection, you may want to consider booking a later flight. This will give you more time to make your connection and will reduce the stress of traveling with a baby.

Conclusion

I hope this information has been helpful. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Sincerely,

The United Airlines Customer Service Team
