Planning a trip to somewhere exotic in September. Not really looking for an all inclusive, but something a bit different where things are cheap to do. Also not looking for an extremely long flight as I only have a week to spend. I know I'm asking for a lot, but any suggestions?

I agree. Cruise is a perfect destination for a week. I suggest you leave from Puerto Rico, as you would have more islands to see than leaving from Miami for instance. The islands are simply beautiful, make sure to include St. Lucia. Breathtakingly awesome. http://www.royalcaribbean.com/fin.../destinations/home.do...

We went to Caye Caulker in Belize. Nice small relaxing Island. Very reasonable prices, lots of good places to eat and was all delicious. Great snorkeling. No real beach though. Lots of docks to sit on.

I really liked Cuba. When I was there a few years ago, I found it to be a lot less commercialized than Mexico (ex: you won't find a Burger King or Pizza Hut). I really enjoyed Viñales and Havana. Take the local buses (like Greyhound), to travel between cities. Stay at a Casa Particular instead of a hotel - a local family will rent you a room and might offer to make you dinner; also invaluable in providing travel advice. Once you get to Cuba, it's easy to travel throughout the country and not spend much money.

Yep - fly to Varadero, Cuba with west jet (direct flight). Go to Havana to soak in the city, culture, architecture, and some cool sights. Spend a bit of time in Vinales and/or hit up some hidden gem beaches for relaxation. I went horseback riding, checked out some caves, and visited a small tobacco farm (where they rolled me some cigars). Bus back to Varadero to catch your flight home, and that's a week well spent (without too much spent)!

Planning an Exotic Trip on a Budget

Seeking an offbeat and affordable getaway for a week-long vacation in September? Look no further! Here are some captivating destinations that might just tick all the boxes:

Morocco

With a flight time of under 4 hours from most European cities, Morocco is an excellent option for an exotic adventure without the lengthy travel. Explore the vibrant souks of Marrakech, marvel at the intricate architecture of Fez, and venture into the Sahara Desert for a night under the starry skies. From budget-friendly riads to mouthwatering street food, Morocco offers an abundance of experiences without breaking the bank.

Mexico

Bright colors, rich history, and delectable cuisine – Mexico has it all. Head to the Yucatan Peninsula to explore the ancient Mayan ruins of Chichen Itza and Tulum, or relax on the pristine beaches of the Riviera Maya. Inland, cities like Oaxaca and San Cristobal de las Casas offer a glimpse into the vibrant indigenous cultures, with plenty of affordable accommodation and dining options.

Sri Lanka

Often described as a hidden gem, Sri Lanka is a feast for the senses. From the ancient rock fortress of Sigiriya to the lush tea plantations of Nuwara Eliya, this island nation promises unforgettable experiences. Surf at Arugam Bay, spot elephants in Yala National Park, and indulge in flavorful curries – all at a fraction of the cost compared to many other destinations.

Vietnam

With a flight time of around 10 hours from Europe, Vietnam might be a stretch for a week-long trip, but it's worth considering for its incredible value and diversity. From the bustling streets of Hanoi to the picturesque Halong Bay, Vietnam offers a rich cultural tapestry. Explore the ancient town of Hoi An, cruise the Mekong Delta, and savor the flavors of Vietnamese cuisine – all while enjoying affordable luxury.

No matter where you choose to go, remember to immerse yourself in the local culture, try new foods, and embrace the spirit of adventure. Happy travels!
