La Brea Tar Pits

My kids lived the medieval times dinner theatre at that age!

Awesome idea. I'll check it out..

Knott's Berry Farm is usually not very crowded on weekdays, pretty inexpensive and has some great rides.

Been there twice, both times it was almost like we had the park to ourselves. Hardly any lineups.

Nothing beats Disneyland. I would spend 5 days at Disneyland and California adventure and one day at Universal if I had 7 days. If I had more time I would perhaps do the beach during the day and Medieval Times in the evening one day. I've never been to the Tar Pits though it sounds cool.
Gail
The Griffith Observatory and hike.
Laura
Universal Studios has the new Harry Potter world, if you are a fan.

Disneyland Vacation for an 8-Year-Old
Congratulations on booking your Disneyland vacation! Your son is going to have a blast. Here are a few cool ideas for things to do and add-ons for your trip:
Things to Do
- Visit all the classic Disneyland attractions. These include rides like "it's a small world," "Pirates of the Caribbean," and "Space Mountain."
- Meet your son's favorite Disney characters. You can find them all over the park, but some of the most popular meet-and-greet locations include Town Square Theater and Fantasyland.
- Watch the parades and fireworks. The Disneyland parades and fireworks are spectacular, and they're a great way to end a magical day in the park.
- Explore all of the different lands. Disneyland is divided into different lands, each with its own unique theme. Be sure to explore them all, from Main Street, U.S.A. to Tomorrowland.
- Ride the new attractions. Disneyland is constantly adding new attractions, so be sure to check out the latest ones during your visit.
Add-Ons
- Park Hopper Pass. This pass allows you to visit both Disneyland Park and Disney California Adventure Park on the same day.
- MaxPass. This service allows you to reserve FastPasses for attractions using your smartphone.
- Disney PhotoPass+. This service gives you unlimited downloads of all the photos taken by Disney photographers during your trip.
- Character Dining. This is a great way to meet your son's favorite Disney characters while enjoying a delicious meal.
- Guided Tour. This is a great way to learn more about the history and secrets of Disneyland.
I hope these ideas help you plan a magical Disneyland vacation for your son's 8th birthday!
