Amy
There are so many great onsens in Japan. Where are you travelling?
Cynthia
Amy I'm going Tokyo and Osaka but probably looking to do onsens around Tokyo. I know there are so many great ones but I'm looking for private ones so me and my husband won't be split up
Leah
If you have a tattoo you must cover it. Some places won't even let you in.
Cynthia
Leah we're good but just don't wanna be separated from my husband like it's so awkward to just sit there talking to noone lol
Joanne
Hakone
Elin
Try Hakone, there's plenty of private ones within the hotels, and you have Mt Fuji very close by too

Private Onsen (Hot Spring) Recommendations for Japan
Planning a trip to Japan this October and wondering if anyone has any private onsen (hot spring) recommendations? Thanks!
1. Hoshinoya Fuji
Hoshinoya Fuji is a luxury ryokan (traditional Japanese inn) located at the base of Mount Fuji. It offers private outdoor onsen baths with stunning views of the iconic mountain. The onsen baths are fed by natural hot springs, and guests can enjoy a relaxing soak while taking in the breathtaking scenery.
Location: Fujikawaguchiko, Yamanashi Prefecture
2. Zaborin
Zaborin is a luxurious ryokan nestled in the beautiful Shikoku region. Each villa features a private onsen bath, allowing guests to soak in the natural hot spring waters in complete privacy. The ryokan is surrounded by lush forests and offers a peaceful and tranquil atmosphere.
Location: Takamatsu, Kagawa Prefecture
3. Kurokawa Onsen
Kurokawa Onsen is a charming hot spring town located in Kumamoto Prefecture. While not entirely private, many of the ryokans in this area offer private onsen baths within their rooms or villas. Guests can enjoy the therapeutic waters while taking in the stunning natural surroundings.
Location: Minamioguni, Kumamoto Prefecture
These are just a few recommendations for private onsen experiences in Japan. October is a beautiful time to visit, as the autumn foliage adds an extra layer of beauty to the natural scenery. Remember to check the availability and make reservations in advance, especially during peak travel seasons.
