be careful check out when it's carnival time there because that makes a big difference. Check out Tobago, much quieter than Trinidad

DISCLAIMER: This is an odd suggestion to anyone who isn’t familiar with Trinidad BUT if you know, you know what I am talking about! Whatever you do, DO NOT leave the island without trying the KFC, it is the best in the world, bar none. If you are the adventurous type, skip the crowd at Maracas & check out the quieter Las Cuevas beach - the waves are much calmer, so safer for the kids swimming too., You could make a day trip out of it & head up to the North coast is breathtaking! Head up to Blanchisseuse, Murphy Bay & Avocat waterfall

Shayna she is right about kfc, just don't expect speedy service!
You HAVE to get doubles as well (traditional street food), icecream, snow cones (they put condensed milk!!! Why doesn't anyone else do this!??!) Crab and dumplings are a traditional Tobago dish.

I agree with the KFC and the beach crowd is worth the bake & shark

You hve to pass Maracas to get to Las Cuevas so Richard’s Bake & Shark is definitely not out of the question! (Definitely get the bake & shark - with pineapple
trust me it is to die for)

My family is from here. I would suggest to be on the cautious side due to safety. But with kids you're unlikely to be out late.
- Swamp tour, you can see the ibis in thier natural habitat at sunset, arrange a car to be there to pick you up and take you home as it will be dark when you get back to land.
- pitch lake
- bird sanctuary
- Tobago, this is more layed back and tourist friendly without being overly touristy. DO NOT take the ferry there, the seasickness is bad even for those with a stomach of steel. You can get a round trip flight for approx $50 CND. It's a half hour flight if that. There are lots of resorts to stay at within walking distance of the airport, But you can also rent a car and drive here. You can see Argyle falls cocoa farms etc. I stayed at crown point (Johnson apartments, self serve) as the beach is literally outside the door down some stairs. Crown Point has a restaurant and a nice pool. There is a restaurant called Kariwak is within walking distance of it and serves awesome local / traditional food. You can also find more upgraded hotels with inclusive packages. Pigeon point beach is also beautiful. You can get a boat tour to see nylon pool, and snorkel.
- Marcus beach (Trinidad) is also great but the water is rough. The shark and bake at Richards is to sooooo gooood.
- San Fernando hill is also a great view and spot to picnic.

If you’re spending a few days in Tobago, check out www.fishtobago.com. Ask them about doing a bioluminescence tour as well (glow in the dark plankton at night)

For Trinidad, everyone gave really good suggestions. For kid friendly activities, I would add:
- ziplining in Macqueripe
- Asa Wright Nature Centre
- visiting a cocoa farm to see how chocolate is made

Port of Spain has a pretty cool little zoo so check it out. Zip lining in Macquripe is great. Fort George for awesome views. Maracas Bay for Bake and Shark but water is rough so go to Las Cuevas as suggested. Caroni Bird Sanctuary to see the Ibis. See if you can check out a pan yard to see the practice. If you go to Tobago then Johnson Apartments at Crown point is a good affordable option. Sugar lips boat tour to the Nylon Pool.
