Hi Folks,
We're looking to do a 7-ish day cruise to Alaska at the end of May with my s/o's family. Age ranges 20-80, probably 15-20 people.
Do you have any advice on where to look, cruise lines, and how to get the best possible deal? … See more

I've read recently that Holland America is taking Canadian dollar at par for bookings. I've never cruised with them and am not sure if this is still the case but it'd be worth checking out. Happy cruising! I love it

Use Hagens travel in North Vancouver. She has been in Alaska and is very knowledgable on cruising. I don't have the number on my cell but her name is Nas.
I did it couple of years ago. It's an amazing trip.

There was 14 of us from 2 yrs to 70 yrs old, we went to Alaska on the Disney cruise line. Can't say enough how much fun it was. They know how to treat large groups like VIPs. A little more pricey but I have been on many different cruise lines and they set the bar high. Great food, service and excellent entertainment.

Planning the Perfect Alaskan Cruise for a Large Family

Embarking on an Alaskan cruise with a large family group can be an incredible experience, but it requires careful planning and research to ensure everyone has a memorable time. With ages ranging from 20 to 80, it's essential to find a cruise line and itinerary that caters to a wide range of interests and activity levels.

When to Book

For a late May cruise, it's recommended to start researching and booking as early as possible, ideally 6-12 months in advance. This will give you access to the best deals, cabins, and availability for your desired dates and itinerary.

Cruise Lines to Consider

  • Princess Cruises: Known for their extensive Alaskan itineraries and exceptional service, Princess Cruises offers a range of ships and destinations to suit families of all sizes.
  • Holland America Line: With a focus on culture, cuisine, and enrichment programs, Holland America Line provides an excellent option for multi-generational groups seeking a more immersive Alaskan experience.
  • Norwegian Cruise Line: NCL offers a variety of ships with diverse amenities, entertainment, and dining options, making it a popular choice for families with varying interests.
  • Celebrity Cruises: Known for their modern, upscale ships and exceptional service, Celebrity Cruises provides a luxurious experience while exploring the breathtaking landscapes of Alaska.

Tips for Getting the Best Deal

  • Book Early: As mentioned earlier, booking well in advance can yield significant savings and ensure availability for your preferred dates and cabins.
  • Consider Off-Peak Dates: Shoulder seasons, such as early May or late September, can offer lower prices and fewer crowds.
  • Look for Group Discounts: With a large group, inquire about group rates or discounts offered by cruise lines or travel agencies.
  • Bundled Packages: Consider booking air, hotel, and cruise packages together, as these bundled deals can often provide substantial savings.
  • Sign Up for Promotions: Subscribe to cruise line newsletters and follow them on social media to stay informed about upcoming promotions and special offers.

Planning an Alaskan cruise for a large family can be a daunting task, but with the right research, preparation, and guidance, you can create lasting memories in one of the world's most stunning natural environments.
