What Cultural Destination Should We Explore for 8 Days in November?

Question:

Profile picture of Abigail

Abigail

It might be a bit early but I’m very excited as the in-laws have offered to take care of our kids for a week which means my husband and I get to go on a trip BY OURSELVES! Need ideas of where to travel the week of Nov 6. Unfortunately due to my work schedule, I am not flexible with dates and we only have about 8 days total so anywhere too far probably isn’t feasible. TIA!
Edited to add:
I think we prefer a cultural destination this time as Sun destinations are not too difficult to go to with kids (and will likely be the next family trip). Would love to explore somewhere new (have been to Azores, Lisbon, London, Zurich, and Paris on the last few trips). Don’t mind a packed itinerary and lots of walking.

Anywhere in the Caribbean is great that time of year and also it is low season (if there is a low season this year) so prices should be better than other times of the year. Have fun!!

Curacao is out of the hurricane belt which could be a concern at that time of year. Diving, snorkeling and the downtown area is beautiful.

If you want culture (food, museums, etc) go to Mexico City. Close, affordable, and so much stuff to do there.

If I got to go somewhere sans child (never going to happen in our case), I would select somewhere with museums and good restaurants. Because museums and good restaurants are a painful experience with the child.

I'd recommend going to Europe instead of sun destinations. You have plenty of opportunities to go to a beach resort as a family, but exploring European cities that involve a lot of walking, trying out nice restaurants, bars, architectures, museums, etc. is probably much better without kids.

Tell us if you like sightseeing/city/museum/gallery/food, or beach/pool/romantic/leisure.
Two entirely different ideas. That way we can make the right suggestions.
Don’t forget that is the tail end of hurricane season in Caribbean.
Flying or driving

Profile picture of Abigail

Abigail

Pauline I think I’m going to agree with commenter above. Sun destinations are easier with kids. I think I’d prefer somewhere more cultural and am ok with a lot of walking and a packed itinerary as that is not feasible with kids

Profile picture of Cathy

As the comments suggest it all depends on what you and your partner like to do. Suggestion 1 parl yourselves at an all inclusive beach resort ( I suggest Jamaica) or 2 a quick trip to Europe again I suggest you pick a city with lots of history and great restaurants. I suggest London or Brussels ( except weather is lousy) or Spain or Portugal. We stayed in a small town in spain for a week a few years ago and really enjoyed it as we could also take a day trip to Barcelona.
What ever you do enjoy and don't worry about the kids. After all it isn't many years till they'll be leaving you behind with any worry!

Profile picture of Linda

Linda

Cathy I agree. Depends so much on what they like to do. We love Jamaica and a week in London would be last on our list. I wonder if Abigail can give more info.

Sedona Arizona … hiking trails galore through red rock country as well as culture. Unfortunately the exchange rate isn’t good right now though. Here in Canada, how about Vancouver or Victoria? I’ve heard San Miquel Mexico is artsy and lovely. It would be warm but isn’t a beach destination.
