Willowbrook mall has a kiosk. I always HSBC for euro and USD as they have the best rate
Dian
We always get local currencies at an ATM at the airport we arrive in. We never convert currencies before we go
Michelle
I do withdraw while in the country as well; however, I like to have some cash on hand in case bank machines are an issue or it's late, etc.
Jill - do you find the rates reasonable at express gold?
Wendy
Exchanged at the airport as I could order it ahead of time and they have it ready. Maybe not the absolute best rate but easy. I think it is ICE (maybe for International Currency Exchange). Especially if you are just looking for a nominal amount to have some on hand for your arrival.
Michelle
Wendy - is this service available through YVR or pre-order for country of arrival?
Thanks for suggestion Jill - they don't carry Rupiah.
Wendy
At YVR-I understand they have more than one kiosk. We ordered on-line (you pay at the airport on pick up, so no concerns there). We picked up at the departures level as I pre-ordered for my daughter before she left for Europe.
Michelle
Looks like ICE is what's in Willowbrook mall too. Thanks for your help!!
Jillian
i havent shopped around too much but its better than the banks or my credit union

i dont see the indonesian currency on their chart...
Michelle
My bank has decent rates but they don't carry the Ringgit and their Indonesian currency is labelled in their system as "Indonesian cash"... Not sure what that is.
vbce def has best rates. Was hoping to find local and save myself the time and gas. ICE rates doesn't look bad.
Wendy
And even though a bank will post rates doesn't mean that they have it on hand to sell other than US dollars and even those are not always available in denominations that you would like.

There is a small currency exchange in willowbrook mall in Langley as well as another one in central city in surrey.
Colleen
There is a currency exchange place by the Cedar Hills medical clinic on 96th Ave. Very nice folks in there, used hem several times

Banks can order in any currency you need with a bit of advance notice. Ordered SGD, HKD, baht, and yen from RBC before my trip to Asia earlier this year. Some came in a bit earlier than others, but all were there within a week. Was able to get the amount and denominations I needed.
Michelle
Yes I've ordered from
My bank before and that is not an issue. Any foreign currencies they don't carry usu arrive in 3 business days. Problem is they do not even order in the Ringgit, hence why i am searching for currency exchanges.
Kimberle
YVR. Easy go online to ICE Currency Exchange and order what you need. No commission just exchange rate and you r on your way
Kimberle
http://www.ice-canada.ca/locations/#Canadian-Locations The locations for ICE Currency Exchanges, there are others around the lower mainland.
Michelle
Thanks everyone. Contrary to what my bank advised when I called in branch. I checked and I can actually order each of the currencies I need. Thanks for all the other suggestions too!!
Evelyne
the TD bank in Walnut Grove said they they match the exchange rates for VCBE, which are definitely better than the banks posted rates.
Michelle
Evelyne - is the rate match only if you attend in person to order currencies? I was just going to do it online.
Wendy
For me it's all about the convenience! The less gas and running around the better!
Evelyne
Michelle, I think you need to go in person - my husband was the one that was told this. Since its not the posted rate, I would expect you would have to go and negotiate it, yes.

There is a currency exchange place across from Guildford Mall on 152nd St. I have exchanged Canadian to US dollars and Canadian to Chinese Yuan. They had better rates than the bank. Check it out

Buy your Indonesian Rupiah at the airport - maybe $100 to start - the rates are between 12400 + 12000 / US Dollar when I was there a few months ago - just exchange your money at an EX location

Currency Exchanges in Surrey/Langley Area
Hello fellow travelers! I understand your need to purchase currencies like Japanese Yen, Malaysian Ringgit, and Indonesian Rupiah, which are not commonly available at regular banks like TD. While VBCE is a popular option, you're looking for alternatives closer to the Surrey/Langley area to avoid traveling to Richmond or Vancouver on a Saturday.
Here are a few suggestions for currency exchanges in the Surrey/Langley area:
- Continental Currency Exchange - This currency exchange has multiple locations in Surrey, including one at the Surrey Central Mall and another at Guildford Town Centre. They offer a wide range of currencies, including the ones you mentioned.
- Langley Currency Exchange - Located in the Willowbrook Shopping Centre in Langley, this exchange offers competitive rates and a variety of currencies.
- International Currency Exchange (ICE) - ICE has a location in the Strawberry Hill Shopping Centre in Surrey. They specialize in buying and selling foreign currencies and travelers' checks.
It's always a good idea to call ahead or check the websites of these currency exchanges to confirm their availability, rates, and any specific requirements or limitations they may have regarding the currencies you need.
I hope these suggestions help you find a convenient currency exchange option near Surrey/Langley. Safe travels and enjoy your trip!

Hello fellow travellers,
Does anyone have any suggestions for currency exchanges in Surrey/Langley area?
I know of vbce, I am ideally trying to avoid wasting my Saturday adjusting plans to go to Richmond or Vancouver to purchase currencies. My bank (TD) doesn't carry all the currencies I need - Yen, Malaysian Ringitt and Indonesian Rupiah.
Any suggestions would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!
