Yes I flew when my daughter was around that age. I brought pre-measured water in her bottles and a bunch of powdered formula with no issues (we flew to BC, westjet). Honestly our flights sucked if I'm being honest lol, I wish I paid for a carseat seat because I feel like she would have done better than on my lap. I had ipad, toys etc. Ended up having to wait for seatbelt signs to go off then walk and rock to sleep. Both times she was overtired and I think she would've slept in the carseat. Try and feed during take off and landing to help with ear pressure. Every baby is different, hopefully yours does well!

Yes you can bring milk/ water/formula. Just let them know at security its is for baby and they let you bring it though. Bring a soother if your baby takes one it will help with ears and lots of snacks

We just travelled with our 9 month old! Yes you can bring liquids 100mL or less (I brought Tylenol). Bottles are fine - I don’t know the specifics around formula but should be able to find it on tsa site. We brought all of the food for her (purées too) and we just had to pull everything out to show them but had zero issues bringing anything through. I brought a stroller and carrier for her (depends where you are going but used both in the airport). We checked the playpen for her (westjet). I wouldn’t bring noise cancelling headphones personally. It’s not that loud depending where you are sitting. Only bring a handful of toys - the best toy of all is the plastic cup for drinks they give you haha. I liked to put her toys on a “leash” so you don’t worry about them dropping. Highly recommend feeding during take off and landing for their ears. Let me know if you have any other questions

I saw a hack recently to put your diapers or bulky items in with your gate check items such as carseat or stroller. If you have a zip up travel bag or heavy plastic bag just tuck them in there when you do your gate check-in to free up luggage space.

Amanda Johnston-Perka yes!! We backpacked Vietnam and Cambodia . Shoved all the diapers in the middle of the playpen, bottom of the stroller. Worked great

Sara We want to do that this January! We kind of backpacked Thailand 29 years ago for our Honeymoon. There or Bali. And your trip sounds AMAZING! With kids?! Xx

We also did the Philippines. Then when
We had our second kid we did Hawaii, Australia and Fiji.
Our 3rd baby is now 5 months and we haven’t travelled much with her because of covid but plan to do so next winter..

Sara You guys are awesome. Travel is my constant focus and we went a lot of places with our kids. But, never to places as exotic as you. I love this.

You can take formula and water for baby if you need it

You can bring bottles with water or milk, purée packets, Tylenol, gripe water etc. you do have to take it out of your bag when you go through security. I recommend putting it in a big ziploc so it stays together and it’s super handy to takeout. I recommend Tylenol and feeding a bottle at takeoff. I also brought lots of snacks, a couple books and ‘new’ toys. And push your stroller right to the plane! They put it underneath and it is right at the door when you get off.

We flew to Vegas and back with our 9 mth. No issue.
I brought formula and an empty water bottle through. Got water once cleared security and mixed some bottles ready to go.
We had early early morning flights. Had a bottle with take off and landing for ears. He only cried for about 1-2 min when he was trying to get comfortable to nap on me and he is usually in a crib so that was hard for him. But no issues at all

I flew with my at the time 10month old. She was good. Slept most of the time. Bring a sippy cup, snacks favourite toy, blanket. Extra change of clothes for everyone in your party. And then another extra for your 9month. Extra diapers and wet ones. If you baby “wear” it’s great on the plane. Especially then I could nap if needed too. Great thing when flying with young children, you don’t go thru the main security line. They push you thru a different line and are great. They will check everything and wipe your hands with a cloth to run thru a machine. But we did run into some not so smart security people. We had our big stroller in the airport and they insisted that the stroller goes on the belt thru the X-ray machine. Ya it got stuck. They wouldn’t listen to us.

I'd suggest bringing a decongestant as pressure on ears can cause ear ache/infection. Decongestant helps keep fluid off ear drum. Talk to your pharmacist.

I flew to Ontario several times with my babies. I always “wore” them” and they slept pretty well the entire time.
I legit put “throw away” pjs on them in the event they had a blow out on the plane. Which for some reason everytime they have flown.
A change of clothes for them AND you!!
Snacks, empty water bottle, and blanket.

Nel most airlines, although typically they are only found on the widebody jets (two aisle planes, not single aisle planes) if you are unsure check seatguru.com and you can see the location of the bassinet on each aircraft type an airline flies for most airlines.

Nel these are very tiny bassinets - not sure it would work for a 9 month old. My little was 12 lbs when it worked. Bottle during take off and landing. The hum of the plane was good for my littles. Little Snacks

I recommend layers for clothes. My kids always got too hot and would end up in their diapers. Something to suck on bottle/boob for take off or landing is helpful. Kids under 2 can take water/juice/milk etc in a travel cup no problem.
New snacks are also helpful. My kids liked those melt in your mouth puffs from superstore or new kinds of fruity pouches.
Agree on the carrier! Sticky/ post it notes are easy entertainment.

You can take a diaper bag. It does not count as your personal item ... it's a freebie. You can take full bottles ... not restricted to 100 mils for formula. Can take pouches and snacks. They are great at security.

Use pull ups rather than regular diapers as they are easier to change on the plane.

Former CATSA agent. Oversized iquids are allowed through preboard screening with babies. Babies are exempt from the rule. Some adults try to bring pop ect through saying it’s for the baby… haha it’s not obv so it gets chucked.
A swab will be done on oversized liquids, no trouble at all! Feel free to ask me about any other screening questions, there is so out of misinformation in this thread such as airlines having different rules on liquids… that is not an airline rule.

I just did a trip with my 10 month old and as far as things that kept her entertained on the plane that were easy to pack - painters tape and post it notes were awesome because she could pull them off of things, a pop it toy was great to poke at and chew on, silicone straws were great to chew on and wave around, gourmet baby mushies, Cheerios and baby mum mums were great, low mess snacks, an empty plastic spice jar with a lid that flips up and down and that was filled with big pom poms was good for her to pry the lid open with her mouth, and then to take the lid off to play with the pom poms, and then a cup of ice from the flight attendants was also a bit hit

I separate my stuff in ziplocks:
1. Ziplocks of medicine (kids Tylenol, allergy, thermometer). Please bring small containers, security likes to see labels on each medicine
2. Ziplocks of soaps shampoo (each container max 100ml if you only hand carry).
3. You are allowed for bottles. Please put formulas bottle in ziplock. For water bottles, Please make sure you empty it first.
4. Ziplocks of fav snacks.
5. Bring blanket. For a long plane ride, i set up blanket on floor and play with my son.
6. Fav stuffies that smell like home.
7. During take off and 15min before landing, please give the kid snacks and water so ears wont hurt.
8. I tired my kids out while waiting for the flight. Then bring them to washroom before lining up to take off. Clean up, change diapers.
I never bring noise cancellation headphone, but you can call the airlines whether you are allowed. And dont forget to ask about stroller arrangement. Most airlines will keep stroller in their storage during flight. You can collect the stroller after landing.

Don’t use up all your tricks before takeoff. Noisy, fussy, a bit hungry and bored kids are great all the way until you’ve taxied and starting to lift off. Then pull out the bag of tricks - something to suck on for equalizing ear pressure. A snack, which often makes them a bit sleepy. A book to read, favorite stuffy… just like spring “in like a lion out like a lamb”. I flew with my 6 month old to Japan - Singapore- Australia and then again at 11 months to Rome. Still travelling with them but now they’re 19 and 16.

<p>Traveling with a 9 Month Old: Essential Tips and Must-Haves

Traveling with a 9 Month Old: Essential Tips and Must-Haves

Traveling with a baby can be challenging, but with the right preparation and essentials, it can be a smooth and enjoyable experience. In this blog post, we'll dive into some tips and must-haves for traveling with a 9-month-old baby, including what you can bring on the plane and how to make the flight more comfortable for your little one.

Bringing Bottles, Tylenol, and Other Essentials on the Plane

One of the biggest concerns for parents is whether they're allowed to bring certain items on the plane, especially for their baby's needs. The good news is that you are allowed to bring bottles, baby food, formula, breast milk, and medications like Tylenol on board.

TSA Tip:

The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) allows reasonable amounts of baby formula, breast milk, and juice in containers larger than 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) in carry-on bags. These items may be subject to additional screening. Medications like Tylenol are also permitted, but you may need to separate them from your other belongings for screening.

Noise Cancellation Headphones

Noise-canceling headphones can be a lifesaver when traveling with a baby. Not only do they help block out the ambient noise on the plane, but they also allow you to listen to calming music or white noise, which can soothe your little one during the flight.

Headphone Recommendation:

Consider investing in a pair of high-quality noise-canceling headphones designed for babies and toddlers. Look for options with a comfortable, adjustable fit and volume-limiting features to protect your child's delicate ears.

Must-Haves for a Smooth Flight

In addition to bottles, Tylenol, and noise-canceling headphones, there are a few other essentials that can make your flight with a 9-month-old more comfortable and less stressful:

  • Diapers and wipes: Pack enough diapers and wipes for the duration of your flight, plus a few extras in case of delays or accidents.
  • Toys and books: Bring a few small, lightweight toys and books to keep your baby entertained during the flight.
  • Snacks: Pack some of your baby's favorite snacks, as well as a sippy cup or bottle with water to keep them hydrated.
  • Blanket or swaddle: A cozy blanket or swaddle can help soothe your baby and make them feel more comfortable during the flight.
  • Extra clothing: Bring an extra set of clothes for your baby (and yourself) in case of spills or accidents.
  • Portable changing pad: A compact, portable changing pad can make diaper changes on the plane much easier.

Remember, every baby is different, so don't hesitate to ask for assistance from the flight
