Typically these days, you can watch prices without a ton of risk until about 8 weeks before departure in hopes of a better price. Beyond that point, prices can permanently rise, if the airline feels they've done a decent job of selling out most of the plane.
air transat used to offer some pretty nice discounts to Europe on flights around 2-4 weeks before departure, but it's become increasingly rare the last few years.

Thanks for the information! I'm doing one way to London, then one way to New York and then one way back to Vancouver and at first, with the cheap westjet flights it looked like I might be better off but now it's looking like I'll pay about the same price, if not more! Hopefully they'll drop slightly in the next month or so.

US immigration might deny your entry without a departure flight or any form of exiting
Katrina
I will have a departure flight from New York to Vancouver.

I watched my flight yvr to lhr for a year and it ranged from 1.1k to 1.3k non stop. Bought mine last week for 1.3k with one 1 stop. I guess it depends on the season. Mine's sembreak so I rarely saw it dip down to 1k
Marilyn
That's a good price for one way.
Tommy
I flew around $290 one way with 1 stop last year. Wait until 8-4 weeks window.

British airway has great sale on now

I think Virgin Atlantic flights start again in May from Vancouver.
Katrina
Nothing much coming up on skyscanner/google flights. Are the BA/Virgin flights for one way or return? I haven't even found Virgin Atlantic flights...
Monique
It's also cheaper to fly midweek
Katrina
Unfortunately it's my finals week at college so I can't fly until the Friday.

You'd probably be better off flying out the Saturday or the Tuesday if you can wait that long. Those are the 2 days with the cheapest airfares. Are you planning on flying back eventually? If so, you might want to check roundtrip flights anyways. I relocated to Europe for work and it was cheaper to book a roundtrip than it was to do a 1 way. klm used to have decent prices or maybe delta if you don't mind some extra stops.

I'm looking to purchase a one-way flight from Vancouver to London on June 24 to arrive by June 25. The cheapest flight I can find is $502 with air canada with 1 stop. Does anyone know if any airlines offer cheaper discounted fares closer to departure time? I'm new to Canada so am not sure of their usual activity. I'd also be willing to spend a bit more for a direct flight but they seem to be priced quite a lot higher at the moment.
