Port Hope and big apple, you've barely left TO; midway is at least Kingston (1/2way is Joyceville with huge flag). Downtown Kin is lovely but WAY off 401. Exit at Division and there are all the chains just off the freeway.. to be avoided I'd hope but in that mess is an independent diner type place (just south, west side?) that does usual fast stuff and maybe best poutine til Quebec. For takeout driver may NOT order poutine unless there's someone to spoon-feed; lap full of gravy = dangerous for all present

There are a lot of Enroute stops with Starbucks, Tim Hortons etc along the way- I think every 50km… we just did the drive last week. They have few picnic tables outside.

Drive along HWY 2 for most of your way… lots of spots along the st Lawrence… up until past Cornwall and leading to Lancaster to connect to 401. Much longer but nicer

Belleville or Kingston is actually your halfway point. So anywhere there has a fair amount of places to eat. Both are beautiful small cities.

Fran's Fish & Chips in Kingston. Take out only as the place is literally a hole in the wall.

Best Lunch Spots Midway from Toronto to Montreal

Travelling from Toronto to Montreal can be a long journey, so it's important to find good lunch spots along the way. If you're driving with a puppy and prefer takeout options, here are some recommendations:

1. Peterborough

Peterborough is a great midway point between Toronto and Montreal. Stop by The Whistle Stop Cafe for some delicious sandwiches and salads that you can easily take with you on the road.

Another good option is Tommy's in Kingston. They offer a variety of wraps and burgers that you can grab and go. Plus, they have outdoor seating if you want to take a break and enjoy your meal with your puppy.

3. Cornwall

Lastly, in Cornwall, check out Love Love Food Cafe for some tasty soups and sandwiches. They also have a selection of baked goods if you're in need of a sweet treat for the road.
