The Sapporo beer museum was pretty cool as well as the Sapporo tv tower at sunset. Osaka is really great for food and nightlife around dotonburi, and really cool old temples (like tons, but little ones) in the tennoji ward, as well as a pagoda you can go to the top of. I highly, highly recommend adding a couple days for Kyoto!

Danielle I think you'll find 4 days in Sapporo too much, unless you plan on doing day trips to other towns from there. I would delete a day or two to get to Kyoto or spend more time in Osaka. Kobe is also right there and true kobe from there is not to be missed!!

Kyoto is my favourite place to visit in Japan. I would skip Osaka and go to Kyoto instead. I've been to Japan many times (my wife is Japanese). Trust me Kyoto is awesome. Lots of amazing temples and shrines to see mixed with great shopping and amazing food. Nara is close by as well. Really fun to see all the deer there.

Osaka castle is a great place to see. Osaka aquarium is also very fun. If you are in japan during a sumo tournament it a must see! If you take a trip to Sakai there ante many interesting museums

Be warned, there's no English here, very busy, the gift shop is literal extortion and the museum hard to get to. I found it overwhelmingly disappointing

shimokitazawa was a cool place to check out, and apparently now known as tokyos coolest neighbourhood. It's not so evident during the day with the throngs of shoppers lining up for something trendy, but the area has a lot of cool bars and hangouts in the evening, fascinating area to walk around, lots of vintage shops, cafes, etc. https://www.timeout.com/.../tokyos-coolest-neighbourhood...
