Consider getting this card for Stockholm! It was a huge money saver and included all local transportation (bus, tram, subway) https://www.stockholmpass.com/?aid=147...

As for a "tour company"... no idea! I explored on my own with these travel cards, which included the hop on/hop tour buses.

In Copenhagen there are two different hop on hop off tours. Part of this includes a canal tour too. And sometimes discounts on certain museums too I think.

looking for a day excursion to Gripsholm Castle or Drottningholm Palace in Sweden and to Odense in Denmark for the 1st wk of October but somehow tour companies don't offer it.. wonder why

My guess is because local public transportation and train systems are so easy to navigate. You can get to most major tourist attractions by train or metro.

a lot of castles are closed during october, why ?

Profile picture of Dana

Dana

Sunshine Really? That seems strange. Kronborg will be open in October. So will both the Rosenborg and Amalienborg Palaces. I know that schools and universities in Denmark have closures for an Autumn break, similar to Spring Break in North America. Maybe that has something to do with it?

The Ribe living museum was superb. Volunteers live there for a periodic of time, make their own clothes, beads, have animals even a trade show for a week in May where traders come dressed in period fashion staying in tents. They come to trade and learn new ideas from other countries as their ancestors did. Also a regular museum in the city of a Ribe. It's on the island of Jutland. Where you can also visit the Jelling Museum with artifacts back to the Bronze Age.
In Aarhus there is another wonderful living museum. Complete with town cryer, trade workers and other humans busy at their jobs needed for their survival. houses and old business buildings have been moved here to make a town. Buildings range in different time periods.
Some lovely old churches in this and many towns, in every village. Just look on line for ideas as there are too numerous to mention.
I have been twice and must go again as I love the people, their way of life and strong family units.

Hey Sunshine When are you travelling to Europe? While in Copenhagen, I do recommend that you get the Copenhagen as it will give you fast track entry to some of the top attractions, palaces and castle https://goo.gl/6cHMdg. When we last visited Stockholm, we took the hop-on hop-off and visited the ABBA Museum and Vasa Museum. It was time well spent. Purchasing the Stockholm Pass will let you skip the ticket lines and save on admission if you are planning on visiting a few places, you can purchase them here: https://goo.gl/86pJfP.
