I would suggest to bring any repellant lotion, I did not bring it and find out only when it happen to me, itchiness and round red dots wont go away until 6 weeks after. And I didn't even hike there but took the train to MP, yet still happen to me. Good luck..

We just came back from the 3-week G Adventures Absolute Peru trip, Cusco stay option. Everything was great! Acclimatized to altitude. Half day and guided tour of Machu Picchu, plus lots of other Inca sites like Pisac and Ollantaytambo. Nice to have a jungle experience to finish the trip.

I did Peru a few years ago. Only booke dfirst nights accomodation. And flights to Cuzco the day after !
There are an insane amount of companies in the main square in Cuzco you can book! We did the 3 day tour that included the sacred valley, entrance into machine pichu and accomodation!
Honestly. Save your money and book when you get there. Everyone speaks English there. Super easy to navigate around

You didn't have any issues with permits to get there? I thought there's only so many they give at a given time?

Luigi we had 6 days in Cuzco so we just booked whenever the company did. Never had an issue. We went in April as well;)

Luigi to hike the Inca Trail there’s 500/day including all the porters, cooks and Guides. So about 160ish tourists. If you just want to get herded up to Machu Picchu on a bus there’s no limits that I’ve heard of. Be sure to research a trekking company well if you’re wanting to do the hike. The cheaper companies did not treat their porters as well as others did.

Ok thanks. I do want to hike it so that's good to know.

Luigi check out the trek to Rainbow Mountain if you can. We went with Flashpacker connect. Just a one day trip. About 23km round trip at even higher elevation, but simply stunning.

Heather They are now restricting the number to Machu Pucchu. Morning ticket holders can only stay until I think around 12:30pm. Afternoon tickets start around that time. We went in Nov 2017 and we were told this was starting sometime in 2018.

Theresa interesting. Could be hard to enforce getting people out though since it’s so spread out.

You have to pre-book the Inca trail.

I was there in October and new rules are in place. I recommend going super early. We hiked up from Aguascalientes at about 4:30am. The bus line ups were already populated. If you go in the morning you can stay all day. But bring food and water as you can only re-enter once.

Planning a Trip to Machu Picchu

When to Go

The best time to visit Machu Picchu is during the dry season, which runs from April to October. During this time, the weather is generally clear and sunny, with little rain. However, it is important to note that Machu Picchu is a popular tourist destination, so it is important to book your trip in advance, especially if you are traveling during the peak season (July and August).

How to Get There

There are several ways to get to Machu Picchu, but the most popular way is to take the train from Cusco. The train ride takes about 4 hours, and the scenery along the way is breathtaking. Once you arrive in Aguas Calientes, the town at the base of Machu Picchu, you can take a bus or hike up to the ruins.

What to See and Do

Machu Picchu is an ancient Inca city that is located in the Andes Mountains of Peru. The city was built in the 15th century, and it was abandoned about 100 years later. Machu Picchu is a UNESCO World Heritage Site, and it is one of the most popular tourist destinations in South America.

There are many things to see and do at Machu Picchu. You can explore the ruins of the city, hike to the top of Huayna Picchu, or visit the Inca Trail. You can also take a guided tour of the city, or simply relax and enjoy the scenery.

Where to Stay

There are several hotels and guesthouses in Aguas Calientes. If you are on a budget, you can stay in a hostel. If you are looking for a more comfortable stay, you can book a room in a hotel.

What to Eat

There are several restaurants in Aguas Calientes. You can find traditional Peruvian cuisine, as well as international dishes. If you are on a budget, you can buy food from the market and cook it yourself.

How to Book a Tour

There are several tour companies in Vancouver that offer tours to Machu Picchu. You can book a tour online or by phone. When booking a tour, be sure to ask about the price, the itinerary, and the cancellation policy.

Conclusion

Machu Picchu is a truly amazing place. If you are planning a trip to Peru, be sure to add Machu Picchu to your itinerary. You won't be disappointed.
