Looking for a boutique beachfront hotel in Mexico with local charm?

Question:

Looking for hotel recommendations in Mexico. NOT Mayan riviera. Not looking for a big resort but more of a boutique hotel. Not looking for all inclusive.
Want: beach front ROOM. Not hotel is beach front, but our room would be beachfront.
Want: local charm.
Want: to be able to walk to town for shopping, food, etc and explore local markets.
Want: beautiful swimmable beach at our doorstep.
Don’t want: to have to take a taxi everywhere. All inclusive.
We are considering Sayulita but not sure if it’s right for us. We are two older people, 50+, adventurous (quadding, zip lining, snorkeling etc) and we don’t want a party hotel. A nice bar would be nice though
Please give me your hotel recommendations, not just a town to go to. Feel free to pm me too.

Merida is beautiful but inland - no beach. Progresso is the nearest town to Merida with a beach (very windy)

I know u said beachfront but in some places that is noise because of all the bars etc. However if u go to Puerto Vallarta before Sayulita i often stay here ( Casa Dona Susana) because it has an amazing roof top patio and pool with lots of plants and birds etc. Also Joe Jacks fish shack best food. When i stay in Sayulita i stay in airbnbs. Lots of nice places to stay there and theres things for all ages to do.

David Hardly but keep thinking that way and leave this beautiful country for the rest of us who appreciate the friendly people, culture, and aren’t ignorant. Safety is most times using common sense.

bahiadelaluna.com check it out. Everything except the walk to town...you will have to drive but this place is tranquility and bliss. The food was amazing when we were there and the people were 5 star wonders. It was an experience of a life time for us.

Also the bus system from outside the airport to Sayulita is pretty easy. As well i always catch my taxis from the other side of the street from the airport. U walk over the overpass and they have a guy that directs the service there.

Check out the area around Merida... Progresso or Telchac Puerto. Much more authentic Yucutan experience.

Also to note for Sayulita is “One of Sayulita’s most appealing treasures is Los Muertos Beach, a little nook of a cove just a few minutes away from the main, downtown beach, but as a rule much less crowded, and also, for those wary of the waves, much calmer. Many of the swells that roll into the main beach, bringing thrills to wave-riders of all sorts, are blocked by Punta Sayulita and thus bypass Los Muertos, making it an ideal spot for leisurely swimming, even snorkeling when the waters are still. There are a few offshore rocks just to the left of the beach, and on calm, clear water days, these rocks are often visited by a colorful array of tropical fish.” I go to this beach all the time when there. Very relaxing and deep calm warm water to swim in.

Why not the Mayan? The beaches are beautiful. You can go to Cozumel or isla mujeres. Sun palace in cancun would be my recommendation. Or the Hilton playa del Carmen. It’s right off 5th avenue- you can walk everywhere!
