I've been to Sansara resort in Panama. I would highly recommend it it's super safe I've been there as a solo female traveller and its owned by two Very friendly Canadians. Highly highly recommend. Or I also recommend anamaya in Costa Rica. Both Sansara and anamaya are "yoga" places but I never went to most of the classes. Sansara is right on the beach and you can relax by the beach or go snorkelling, paddle boarding, for a bike ride or a walk. They also have the best baby waves if you want to learn to surf.

Oahu, Hawaii. Very safe for a solo female traveller. You don't need a car, the bus system is great. Stay in the Waikiki Beach area. Rent a condo at The Ilikai or Waikiki Banyan. Close proximity to restaurants and shopping.

If deciding any of the Hawaiian islands, I'd say Kauai would suite her more! Waikiki is a tourist mecca for first time travellers. I've been to 3/4, and Kauai was amazing..even when I did it solo.

If you're looking at the Caribbean I went to university in Barbados and I can say I never felt unsafe there as a solo female. Catcalling and things like that are way more socially acceptable there than it is here, but if you tell them to back off they will and it's not a problem. I also had a really good time in Dominica and again never felt unsafe going off by myself and doing whatever. I would NOT recommend Jamaica as a single female, though. The street harassment there is off the wall. I had guys there try to follow me home, grab me, try to kiss me... they would not listen to no and it was extremely uncomfortable. There were many times when I just did not feel safe. I would not go back to Jamaica by myself.
If you have any questions about any of these islands feel free to PM me. As I said I lived in Barbados so I can tell you anything you want to know

Thanks! How is the weather in Barbados or Dominican in December though? I heard it can be hit or miss...

Barbados is basically always 30 degrees haha. But my friend there tells me it's been raining a lot lately. The dry season starts in January so you would expect to get a little more rain this time a year but my experience is that even when it does rain it just comes in little spurts

Sweet! What's the best way to fly from YYC? When I check flights I'm getting multiple changes... :s

there are no direct flights from Calgary to Barbados, unfortunately. The best way is usually with a stop over in Toronto

Costa Rica!
Nicaragua I wouldn't recommend right now as the country just took a pretty hard beating. As did Costa Rica but depending on where you went you'd be fine

I'm not sure about Nicaragua and where it hit but we were also hit on the east Costa with a 7.0 earthquake that affected Nicaragua. . And it ripped up the core and east coast of Costa

Ohh that's such a shame... Costa Rica is definitely high up on my list - but keeping it for a better weather time

I went solo on a Med. cruise it was great, also in the Cook Islands, Canary Islands, Spain and Paris. I've met people travelling solo in Thailand and lots in Australia, depending on how much time you have. I follow the same safety precautions I would at home, no problem.

I've travelled to Greece and Hong Kong as a solo traveller. Both were amazing. Very easy to get around in both cities. Hong Kong has a great transit system and most of the signs are in English/Mandarin/Cantonese. Awesome beaches and great food. Greece is fairly easy to get around as well. Santorini was my favorite. You can rent ATVs to get around the island..people are very friendly and it can be a very economical vacation
