We paid a small amount extra last month to fly EVA to Taiwan/Thailand from YVR and the flights were awesome each way. Best service and food I've ever had in the air and lots of knee room in coach.
Vicki
yes look at eva airline...they often have shorter layovers....very good prices booking direct on their website with no middle men to mess you up
Bonnie
I flew ANA last time. Great prices! Great service! Perhaps middle road for comfort but good prices!
Alfred
china eastern
Patty
Don't rush. They seem to be announcing specials every few days.
Katrina
i flew china eastern to australia. it was fine, the food was ok as long as you picked the chinese option instead of the western option, they had tvs. seats were a bit hard. it was worth it for the money we saved
Katrina
wait nevermind it was china southern bahahaha sorry
Heidi
We scooped at 700.00 deal to Bangkok last fall about this time. With ANA…thanks to Chris. Haven't seen one like that yet….
Ireen
Same here. Still waiting for a good deal
Heidi
So you haven't seen anything like that ANA deal?
Ireen
Last year I got a deal for 608 yvr-manila

Don't cheap out on long flights. $200 extra is nothing when we're talking convenience and comfort on 12hr+ flights. Cathay, EVA, AC as mentioned before are great.

Watch for unusually long layovers in Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Tokyo, etc., when checking flights that are not direct. Many times it can be worth the extra cost to fly direct to Hong Kong with cathay pacific or air canada and avoid the long layovers which themselves can come with some extra costs, especially if you need a hotel in the layover city.

air canada

China air was fine id fly them again

FYI airlines reduce their prices on Tues 1159pm. So Wednesday at 0000 hrs is when they reduce the fares. Just thought I would let you all know.
Erin
^That is not entirely accurate. There are many different algorithms for airlines calculating airfares.
Tony
So what do you have for us tips
Jodie
I'm going from April 18, to May 6 multi city flying YVR to Phuket, then Bangkok toBali, BALI return home was $1047 and got 300$ off (td points) cathay pacific !!!
Gerri
I paid $1090 from yvr to bkk with air canada and Cathay dec 28-jan13. The Chinese airlines were cheaper but I chose this option because I only have two hrs in HK on the way there and three hrs on the way back which is the perfect time for a layover. I prefer Cathay, China airlines or EVA personally
Sylvie
Traveled for a living for 14 years. Just thought to pass on what I know. Has nothing to do with algorithms. Has to do with facts. Ask Clare Newell she'll tell you. E.O.

Avoid china eastern like the PLAGUE. Flight attendants were beyond rude, the seats are made of concrete.I have flown them 2-4 times because of convience only, never again. If you must fly with china eastern, bring some type of padding for the seat. Its better to pay a little extra $$$ for a long haul flight.Good luck
Sheryl
I would never fly China Air again!
Nigel
I've flown Chiba Easter to and from Guangzhou on my way to Thailand. . During the flight my bum was numb from the hard seat, narrow seat and the very limited knee room. Not my favourite experience. The flight from Guangzhou to Phuket, half the length was in a much more comfortable seat with way better legroom. I kept wishing I'd had the same plane for the transpacific journey.

Airlines for Flights to SE Asia from YVR
If you're planning a trip to Southeast Asia from Vancouver (YVR), you have several airline options to consider. China Eastern Air may offer some of the cheapest prices, but it's important to weigh the cost against other factors like comfort, amenities, and overall travel experience.
China Eastern Air
China Eastern Air is a reputable Chinese airline that operates flights to various destinations in Southeast Asia from YVR. They often have competitive prices, especially for connecting flights through major Chinese hubs like Shanghai or Beijing.
Pros: Low prices, extensive route network, modern fleet.
Cons: Long layovers, less legroom in economy class, mixed reviews for in-flight service.
Other Airline Options
If you're willing to pay a bit more, you might consider airlines like Air Canada, Cathay Pacific, or Eva Air. These carriers generally offer a more comfortable experience, with better in-flight amenities, entertainment systems, and legroom.
Air Canada, for instance, has direct flights to major Southeast Asian cities like Hong Kong, Tokyo, and Seoul, with connections to other destinations in the region. While more expensive than China Eastern Air, their service and reliability are often praised by travelers.
Cathay Pacific and Eva Air are also excellent choices, known for their premium cabins, friendly service, and extensive route networks throughout Asia.
Tips for Booking
Regardless of the airline you choose, here are some tips to help you find the best deal and have a smoother travel experience:
- Be flexible with your travel dates and consider traveling during off-peak seasons to get lower prices.
- Book well in advance or keep an eye out for last-minute deals.
- Consider signing up for airline loyalty programs or using a travel credit card to earn points or miles.
- Research the airlines' baggage policies and fees to avoid unexpected costs.
- Check online reviews and ratings from other travelers to get a sense of the airline's service and overall experience.
Ultimately, the choice of airline will depend on your budget, travel preferences, and desired level of comfort. While China Eastern Air can be a cost-effective option, it's essential to consider the trade-offs and whether the savings are worth potential inconveniences or sacrifices in service quality.

Looking at booking a flight to SE Asia soon... Recommendations on airlines to use to get there from YVR? china eastern Air seems to have some of the cheapest prices (for multiple starting point destinations I've looked at), is it an okay airline or should I pay more for another?
