This is going to be expensive unfortunately. There is a rental car surcharge per day for each state you drive through. I think it's about $20 a day depending on the state you are going through. Maybe bus down to the states and rent a car in bellingham

Danielle Tomczyk, I didn't see that with Hertz for exemple ... Which company is it? Yvon, which company? My best offer is rent a car from YVR for 45 days, it is 1200 CAD. Not so expensive right?
Danielle
They don't tell you about the extra fee for taking it through the states until you go and pick up the car. It's for the extra mileage. It's all car rental companies I have seen

Interesting Danielle Tomczyk..I didnt know that.

Just a crazy thought... Go to used car lot in Vancouver, insure it... And you're on your way down the road to wherever you want to go. The open road!! Get to your destination in... San Fran?! Donate it to a kidney foundation type program or hospital or whatever for used cars and get some of your money back for the donation?!

Renting a Car in Vancouver for a Month-Long Trip to the Western USA
Renting a car is a great way to explore the Western USA, and Vancouver is a convenient starting point. Here are some tips to help you find the best deal on a rental car and avoid any unexpected surprises.
1. Book early
The earlier you book your rental car, the more likely you are to get a good deal. Many rental companies offer discounts for early bookings, so it's worth it to start your search as soon as possible.
2. Compare prices from multiple companies
There are a number of different rental car companies to choose from, so it's important to compare prices before you book. You can use a comparison website like Kayak or Expedia to get quotes from multiple companies at once.
3. Consider your insurance needs
When you rent a car, you will be required to purchase insurance. The cost of insurance will vary depending on the type of coverage you choose and the rental company you use. Be sure to read the terms and conditions of your insurance policy carefully before you sign up.
4. Be aware of young driver surcharges
If you are under the age of 25, you may be charged a young driver surcharge. This surcharge can vary from company to company, so be sure to ask about it when you are comparing prices.
5. Choose the right car for your needs
The type of car you rent will depend on your travel plans. If you are planning on doing a lot of driving, you may want to rent a car with good gas mileage. If you are planning on camping, you may want to rent a car with a lot of cargo space.
6. Check the car carefully before you drive away
Before you drive away in your rental car, be sure to check it carefully for any damage. If you find any damage, be sure to report it to the rental company immediately.
7. Return the car on time
Returning your rental car on time is important to avoid late fees. Be sure to allow yourself plenty of time to get to the rental office before it closes.
By following these tips, you can find the best deal on a rental car and avoid any unexpected surprises.
