What to do in Vancouver on a rainy day when showing guests around?

Question:

Profile picture of Joanne

Joanne

Raining in Vancouver on the day we are showing our New Zealand guests around.
We had planned to take them to whistler but the scenery won’t be as stunning in the rain. They will have a few days here to check out the local spots and shopping so we wanted to do something more experience like. Any ideas for a rainy day?

We had friends here from Australia and went to Cap Suspension bridge in the pouring rains, they have capes to wear while there, sure saved from being soaked, but it was a fun day either way!

A hike at the Seymour Conservation Area is a treat even in the rain, go over the free suspension bridge. Also, there's a fab exhibit at the VAG. Then you could get a lunch at Hawksworth. Or drive up to Whistler to the Audain Gallery.

When our friends from Australia came, one thing they loved was standing on Zero Ave in White Rock, with one foot in Canada, and the other in the US. They had never seen a border before. They also loved carving pumpkins and still talk about that and it’s been a few years.

Profile picture of Cassandr

Cassandr

Is carving pumpkins only a North American thing?

Profile picture of Kim

Kim

Cassandra Sarling, I’m not sure. But they don’t celebrate it in Australia. They kept saying how much they enjoyed partaking in a “Canadian custom”.

Everyone is mentioning some really great places to go today. Another thing that is awesome about her city is the food scene. On a rainy day like this why don't you guys talk into somewhere delicious and super cozy for dinner. Depending on what their preferences are for a day like this I would suggest either chambar, East is East on Main Street or my favorite restaurant Bodega On Main

There's a few good museums around UBC and it's still good to walk around. Lynn Canyon has a great suspension bridge and is somewhat covered by trees from the rain. I'm sure there's some awesome haunted houses you could do too. Failing that, main Street and west of it havd some awesome breweries

I would encourage you to consider coming to Whistler, regardless of the rain. Nice drive up on the Sea to Sky. We have lots of indoor attractions- Squamish Lil’Wat Cultural Centre, Audain Art Museum, Whistler Museum, brewery tours, Forged Axe Throwing, great restaurants. We love going for ramen at Fuji Market on a rainy day. Outstanding ramen! It’s the shoulder season before the mountains open for skiing, so lots of restaurants and hotels have special promotions.
