If you are interested in discounted prices the UofA dentistry clinic in KAYE charges 50-70% less than the fee guide (what it would cost in a private practice) and work is done by the students under the supervision of board certified specialists. They do anything from pediatric dentistry, nitrous sedation, to implants and bridges, dentures, esthetic cases, you name it. If a case is too complex they can be handled by the dentistry residents.
Appointments are a little longer than in private practice because the specialists or general dentist are really involved and thorough.
Jody
I recommend the U of A School of Dentistry as well!
Rosy
Jhoyli Labrador-Stacey do they work on cosmetic procedures as well?
Kim
Jhoyli Labrador-Stacey thx! Wasnt aware of this!
Jhoyli
Ree Dhillon We do cosmetic cases that involve anything from veneers, crowns, bridges, implants (wait list for implants is a few months), dentures and not really in the esthetic category but the oral medicine residents also do Botox for facial pain-- does that answer your question?. You first have to come in for a screening appointment and be "accepted" as a patient. Here is the website!
https://www.ualberta.ca/.../how-to-become-a.../index.html and phone number is 780 407 5550.
I hope this is helpful! let me know if you have any more questions!

Dentures maybe. There’s no injection or blood involved.
I’d never suggest foreign work.
I’m a retired dental assistant I’ve seen people needing work redone from Costa Rica and Mexico. From Canadian dentist too.
But personally I’d stick to home and where you can go back if you have problems.
Kaitlin
I work in the industry. I have seen good and bad work come out of Mexico. I would be very nervous, personally, for many reasons.
When things go wrong it can be pretty dramatically bad and fixing those mistakes can be difficult or even impossible. For example, crowns that were done poorly that ended up with decay that extended underneath and compromised the whole tooth to the point it needed to be removed and replaced with an implant.
Proceed with caution.
Khang
It's the follow-up work and recovery that really could be risky. That's even if the initial work was "good"
Bobbi
I just went in December, I read a lot of reviews, but I wanted to be by the ocean so I could have a holiday too. After searching for about a year, I picked one in cancun and even including the trip for 2, we saved about $4000
Monique
I’ve also heard that if you need serious heart surgery here in canada Drs ask if you’ve had dental work done in Mexico. If you have they won’t do anything to you until you get your dental redone here in canada. Do more research on that.
Eleisha
Monique I wouldn't think doctors in a position to refuse life saving treatment over the location of dental work. There's an increased risk of heart complications, inflammation and infection after any invasive dental work. Having it redone sounds like overkill and and even greater risk to the patient. I'd imagine they'd do bloodwork to determine if there's an infection and proceed with antibiotics. Something to think about though, I'll be asking my friend who is a CCU RN!
Amanda
Yah that doesn't seem right. I'd be looking into that further before spreading that story around.
Vicki
Thar doesn't even make sense. Theres more to that story I'm sure.
Maureen
Went to Cancun Dentistry Cosmetic. We have been there a few times for work done and have referred many folks. Tons of people from Canada go. Service and price is amazing.

I started getting dental work done in mexico 2 years ago and its the best decision Ive made. Highly recommend Cancun Dental Specialists, they were amazing. My friend has a full mouth of dental work done there (as opposed to me just needing cleanings and check ups) and it was always outstanding.

I also went here and it was great!
Laberta
I have aunts and uncles who go there all the time for dental work they think it’s great. But many of their fillings turned into root canals, then the root canals failed so they they had the teeth pulled and now have partial dentures. I’d rather stay home and keep my teeth. Alberta has the highest sterilization regulations in Canada. That means more $ dentists have to spend on keeping you/us safe from spreading disease. That’s why prices are higher here.
Vicki
Laberta ive had 3 root canals plus crowns here. No problems. But i've also heard of those kind of issues happening with Canadian dentists also. Soooo.
Meglore
It would be nice to have statistics and not anecdotal evidence...?
Emilio
Los Algodones and Mexicali have great dentist in Mexico (Baja California) I'm from Mexicali let me know if you want a recommendation.
Jo-Anne
We’re in Yuma in the winter and have gone to Los Algodonnes and had work done and zero problems. Do your homework on finding a reputable dentist, and you get what you pay for. It’s a fraction of the Canadian cost, even with the terrible exchange rate. The dentist office is cleaner than the one I went to in Edmonton.
Vicki
Yes! In many places. We have had lots of work done here in Nuevo Vallarta. Just 20 minutes north of Puerto Vallarta. The offices are cleaner than any you wiil find anywhere. Plus the most up to date and state of the art equipment! And the prices!! Pays for the trip. Book ahead. Our dentist is Dr Lisa Magallanes Reimers
523222237688. She operates out of the San Xavier hospital building. And if you have an issue after the fact, she fixes for free! Cleaning and checkup 600 pesos. Fillings 800 to 1000 pesos. Crowns 3000 pesos. (Every 100 pesos is equivalent to 7 canadian dollars approx.)
Donna
Vicki wisdom teeth?
Dee
My mom and dad always get dental work done there. It’s way cheaper and they’ve had great experiences. (Example - my root canal here in Canada cost more than $4000 - my dad’s in Mexico cost $250)
Mary
Dee Tell you what I had 2 root canals done, crowned put in, and an implant done. Later had infections, one had fragment of brokenninsyrument lodged in my gum which I had to extract. Another was an infection as well. Later had implant done from one of the tooth that was taken out. This was wrong as well The screw was placed crooked and the crown wasnt centered as a result it caused my adjacent tooth, bone lost. Now the screw is lodged close to my other molar. Over $12,000+- out of pocket and 2 teeth extracted after root canal & crown done. Now I have the implant post with a wrong crown which fell off.
Mariela
costa rica is the place to go. I went to jaco, amazing dental - VERY professional and top quality!
Jenny
Now this is my though and only mine. With missing three upper back teeth I was quoted $6000.00 for one implant and bone graph. I decided I would get work done in Croatia where my son lives.
I had two implants with bone graphing, two sets of xrays, 3 root canals, on tooth pulled, and five crowns, plus took out three old filling and replace them with white . Total cost $5300. Canadian. I’m going back in June to a wedding and finishing the implants with two crowns. The crowns came from Italy, as in Europe they are known for being the best.
I personally know many people that have gone to Mexico for major dental work plus gastric surgery. All have been successful.
I will continue to support and promote dental work in other countries. I like my money and will only support the dentist here for cleaning.
Pammy
It depends on where you go. My extended family goes to Mexico for all their dentistry now, has for some time, and has never had a problem. They go to Los Algodones for theirs, stay in Yuma then head down. Very close by
Diane
Got my dental work done in Puerto Vallarta. I had the best experience. It was so clean and the best service. My teeth were cleaned so clean. I saved over 3000 and will do it again. As to getting airborne disease I will beg to differ as it was cleaner than my dentist in Canada!
Lea
I’ve gone several times to Tijuana. We stay in San Diego and take the train down. I’ve have 3 crowns done and several fillings. I can get you the name of the clinic if interested. Excellent work and great prices. Paid for our trip as to what it would have cost in Saskatoon
Linda
Lea I’d be interested in the name if you want to share.
Lea
Linda certainly! I’m in ElSalvador right now but I’ll see if I can look them up as it is not coming to me right now. We had excellent service and care with them.
Heather
Both my parents live in Yuma for the winter and have had great success with their Mexican clinic
Alyne
Heather so do mine
Lori
Heather mine too and they go to Los Algadones.
Eleisha
My boyfriend and I went to Simply Dental in Los Algadones. We stayed in Yuma, drove 20min, parked for $6 and walked across. The office was lovely as was the staff. All the equipment was up to date looking and very clean( as compared to my Edmonton Westmount dentist). We both got check ups, cleaning, x-rays and I had a previously chipped tooth filling replaced. The total for us together was $156USD. There 1000's of reviews online that would give you more info for what you want specifically.
Natalie
Eleisha that’s sooo cheap
Sherry
Border towns from Texas, Arizona, and California. Millions of snowbirds get their dental work done.
Teesha
We're in the industry too and don't recommend it. Have seen many failed dental implants, crowns/bridges and denture work. Then when it comes to trying to get it fixed, no one here wants to touch the case. So what might be a temporary savings often results in a higher costs after. If you live nearby the border it might be alright but if not, be prepared to make trips back for after care. Also their infection control protocols are not nearly what ours are, I would personally not want to risk a blood borne disease like Hep, HIV or AIDS just to save some money.
Scarlet
Teesha agreed. I have two friends who went to Mexico for dental work. Both came back with bacteria and infection and it was. A struggle to find any dentist to touch it. One ended up in emergency as she had no other choice to force someone to help her
MG
The problem is that I know cases in AB when the dental work wasn't done right and the dentists didn't want to change anything. On the bacteria front - met a woman in emergency recently who go infection after surgery here. So... Money (and time) speaks pretty clearly
Heather
I’ve got lots of family that have seen Dr Alberto Ortega in Los Algodones, Mexico. They’ve all been very happy with him!
Maile
There’s a phenomenal American dentist with his own practice in Cabo. My father lives down there and all his friends use this gentleman (crowns, gum surgery etc). I’ve been myself and he’s great. 1/3 of the cost of work here and super quality. My other half will be going to have his wisdom teeth taken out later this spring.
Patricia
Would you share his name. Thanks

You need to be careful where you go. Some of the work is excellent. My sister did some. Some is not as good as canada. Much much cheaper.
Linz
My parents only get their dental work done down there. Have been for years and never had an issue. Saved them thousands.
Tammy
I work in a dental office we see the issues after
Denise
My sister and brother in law go all the time. What are you wanting to get done? PM me and I will get the details for you.
Mary
Denise waiting for info please.
Courtney
Not Worth it!!!! Trust me! Working in dental you see so many horrible cases from there! May look good but doesn’t mean it is done well!
Vicki
Courtney thousands of people get there work done here and thousands are really satisfied.
Diana
I have heard good stories and bad ones. Buyer beware
Shannon
I go to the dentist every time I go
I actually prefer the dentists there.
Jackie
Some of the materials they use in Mexico aren’t used here anymore, for a reason.
My biggest question is if you are USA educated and paid for an American education why are you practicing in Mexico and not getting paid what you could be in the USA?
As you can see I’m leery.
Tracy
Jackie probably because the cost of living is much cheaper not to mention the costs of running a business would be cheaper too. Just because your income is higher doesn’t mean you’re better off if your expenses are high too.

My grandpa got his dentures done in Mexico City many years ago. He was happy with them
Rayna
I'd research this very very thoroughly. I've read about people getting metal poisoning from dental work there to the point they were hospitalized. Saving $$ aint worth your health.
Vicki
Rayna been doing this for 10 years and no problems. Like i said above, cleaner than our dentists in Canada. State of the art equipment. Newest technology, and best of products. Thousands of people do this every year.
Melanie
Los Algodones... my parents live in Phoenix and drive down all the time for dental work. My husband was quoted $14,000 for an implant here. He flew to Phoenix twice and had the implant done and follow up and it cost $3500 incl flights sccomadation , rental car, accomadations and dental work. There are videos on Utube about Los Algadones
Alice
Melanie r u saying in Los Algodones has good dentist.
Mary
Melanie need info please
Vicki
I see comments from people that work in the industry repairing bad work. I've had bad work in Canada also!! Plus my sister who works in the industry says implants are a risky procedure whether done here in Mexico or in Canada. Every person reacts differently so its not about being botched its about your bodys reaction to the implant.
Vicki
Just to clarify. I live in Mexico for 5 to 6 months of the year. Our dentist we have here takes a couple weeks to get in as she comes highly recommended and is busy. We know heaps of people that get there work done down here every year!!
Lisa
My sisters boyfriend always does. He’s rather tight with his money. He says he has had great work at the fraction of the price
Brenda
NO NO NO! The sterilization standards are not up to ours and if something goes wrong when you get back no dentist will touch you.
Vicki
Brenda so not true! The places are cleaner than our dentist offices...and they have state of the art equipment and latest technology. Why do people always assume Mexicans are so not clean. You wont find any whiter whites than you do in Mexico!! Just because their infrastructure is below our impossible standards doesn't mean they are dirty!!
Vicki
Brenda but you know what. You all can stay up there and get your dentistry done that way it won't take as long for us to get in and get ours done. Our dentist is so busy shes had to hire on more and can't get in for 2 weeks.
Noreen
Brenda I had a dentist for 15 years. Wonderful. I told him I had teeth done in Mexico. No longer had a dental plan. He commented that one of the crowns done in
Mexico was not good. It was HIS crown. He has not seen me since.
. I have been shopping for a new one in red deer. Have found several that follow the recommended fee guide. The only two dental offices I felt
good about did not follow the guide and it seems to me, the crowns were $400 more. I need to find one in Canada, preferably Red Deer
Wendy
Snowbirds have been using dentists in Neuvo Progresso for decades. Clean. U.S. trained.
Lea
As in all things, some are better than others!
Amanda

How many hundreds have great surgeries? They aren't shown...
Madony
WE have had lots of dental work done in Thailand. Great treatment and much better price than Canada, Just because it's a foreign country doesn't automatically mean that health care is inferior. There are plenty of bad dentists in Canada too.
Patti
come to tamarindo costa rica stay at the villas macondo. the dentist is one of the managers we have used her services just this morning my spouse had an impression done for a new partial in two weeks and 400 many relatives and friends have gone to her and were very happy.
Natasha
I’ve heard people say they are happy with it and it was about 30% of the cost it would be here
Megan
We went to Los Algodones for my daughter, she needed an implant. Dr Beltran was the dentist. Very good dr. But after he did the post and bone graph we went home and then back down in 5 months. Her bone graph didn't work and some tissue had grown around the post so it needed to be removed and restarted with more bone graph. No fault of the dentist but something to think about if you can't see the dentist in between those visits to get checked if all is well. They do want you to come in after 2 weeks to make sure it looks good but we were back home by then.

Jackie
So in general folks. You get what you paid for!
Vicki
Jackie notice that its people that work in the industry that have the negative comments.... because they are trying to justify their costs. My sister worked in the industry and says that implants can go wrong for many reasonsxand you take your chance getting them whether in Canada or Mexico.
Jackie
It’s the same here. You need to find someone you trust.
Cynthia
Do not.
Kathy
My mother in law does. Apparently it’s cheaper.
Joanne
I have a friend in Guadalajara right now and she’ll save approximately $4,500 compared to Canada
Ivan
I would like some implants if anyone knows the best place?
Jhoyli
the Uofa Dentistry clinic in Kaye does dental implants for a fraction of the cost of what you would pay in a private clinic! wait list is a few months but they are done with the supervision/assistance of one of the best oral surgeons from Edmonton and one of the best prosthodontists as well. worth a look if you are interested in staying local.

You get what you pay for. Like someone above said American trained, working in Mexico for a reason. Who cares about cost if once in Canada you have issues, no legal recourse etc. If you have issues it might cost more in the long run. Alberta is expensive, I'd look at other provinces before going to do any medical in Mexico. It's cheap for a reason.
Kristy
Denis it’s cheap because they don’t have benefit coverage like we have here. The medical and dental companies jack up the price because the benefit companies will pay it!
Vicki
Denis its cheap because they aren't gouging us. They have the same state of art equipment and latest technology maybe even more advanced and still its cheaper. Its cheaper here because cost of living is cheaper there.
Noreen
Denis From Alberta. Was going to Saskatchewan. Well recommended dentist my family uses . Told him 3 times there was a problem. Pain along gum line . Nope X-rays show nothing. After 8 months it had to be pulled
have been to my Mexican dentist 3 years ago and now. She has a small office , absolutely spacious enough and one assistant. Very low overhead. When the dentist in Saskatchewan neglected my tooth, what recourse did have? Prove it.
Noreen
Denis and then going through all the hoops for how long?
I believe in “shopping local.” Sometimes the cost is too high. Most of what we use is from other countries

Dental Tourism in Mexico: Affordable Smiles Beyond Borders
In recent years, dental tourism has gained significant traction, particularly in Mexico, where individuals from around the world, including the United States and Canada, have sought high-quality yet affordable dental care. The allure of substantial cost savings, combined with the expertise of skilled dentists, has enticed many to embark on a journey across the border for their dental needs.
The Lure of Dental Tourism in Mexico
For many Americans and Canadians, the cost of dental procedures in their home countries can be prohibitively expensive, even with insurance coverage. In contrast, dental treatments in Mexico can be significantly more affordable, often costing a fraction of the price. This cost disparity has driven countless individuals to explore dental tourism as a viable option.
Personal Experiences and Finding the Right Dentist
Sarah, a retired teacher from California, shared her experience of seeking dental work in Mexico. "I needed extensive dental work, including crowns and implants, which would have cost me an arm and a leg in the United States," she said. "After researching online and reading countless reviews, I decided to travel to Tijuana, Mexico, for my dental treatment."
Sarah's experience was overwhelmingly positive. "The dental clinic I visited was modern, clean, and staffed with highly skilled professionals. The dentists were not only knowledgeable but also took the time to explain every step of the process to me," she added. "The cost savings were substantial, and I'm thrilled with the quality of work I received."
Finding the right dentist in Mexico is crucial for a successful dental tourism experience. Many patients rely on word-of-mouth recommendations, online reviews, and specialized dental tourism agencies to help them navigate the process. These agencies often vet dental clinics, provide personalized guidance, and assist with travel arrangements.
Considerations and Precautions
While dental tourism in Mexico can be a rewarding and cost-effective option, it's essential to exercise caution and due diligence. Thoroughly research dental clinics, ensuring they adhere to strict hygiene and safety protocols. Additionally, it's advisable to seek recommendations from trusted sources and consider the dentist's qualifications, experience, and accreditations.
Patients should also factor in additional costs, such as travel expenses, accommodations, and potential follow-up visits, when evaluating the overall cost-effectiveness of dental tourism.
Conclusion
Dental tourism in Mexico has provided an affordable solution for countless individuals seeking quality dental care. With meticulous research, careful planning, and a reputable dental clinic, the experience can be both rewarding and cost-effective. As Sarah's story illustrates, venturing across the border for dental work can result in a beautiful, healthy smile without breaking the bank.

has anyone ever gone to Mexico for dental work?
