Question:
Humans say...
Paul
As long as you are in the same terminal you are fine...
Daniel
It's enough
Terri
Totally enough YVR to PVR....not back.
Daniel
Yeah not back that is true
Leisha
Darn it , return flight has an hour and twenty min stop at SFO ! Why not back ? Wouldn't we land in international and the gate back to Canada would be too right ? Or do we have to go through customs or something ? Sorry for all the questions , we are new at international flights lol
Heather
You'd have to go through customs as landing in a new country.
Leisha
What about a 2 hour layover at LAX on the return flight ? I can't find any nonstop flights for my dates unfortunately.
Terri
You usually have to clear US immigration on way back. Depends on how quickly you clear..2 hours OK
Daniel
2 h minimum cause the flights go thru customs and there is a lot of flights at the time and with the trump administration the delays are a little more
Leisha
Ok thanks ! I did find a 3 hr one but it's $300 more for the 2 of us , I'm trying to be cheap lol
Terri
Makes perfect sense!
Paulette
If you are booked with the same airline it will probably be okay, but if you are taking two different airlines there may be a problem - google the airport site and find out where each airline arrives and departs - it used to be that if the time between flights was too tight you would get a caution note before you completed your booking - if you are pre-cleared in Vancouver then you should be okay
Linda
I think it depends on the terminal... we had heck of a time when we had a stopover going from Hawaii to SF to van. Never again!!!
Terri
So much worse coming back!
Leisha
What made it bad ? If you don't mind me asking
Linda
No one was helpful. We had to leave customs and then reenter again... and just the walk from one end to the other.
We coulda been tired too as it was a red eye flight!
Terri
Having to get luggage, clear US customs and immigration, leave terminal, drop bags again then go back through security is pretty standard if you land in US on way home. A pain and takes time....stressful if in a hurry.
Leisha
Thanks ! I think I'm going to get one with a 3 hr layover so I'm not stressed out lol ! I always thought your bags automatically went to the next flight , I didn't know you had to go to baggage as well ! Shows how much I know LOL !
Leisha
Does someone from the airline tell you these things , how do you find out what your supposed to do , just wing it lol
Terri
They will tell you but basically you usually just go as if you were staying but there will be a place as you come out to leave bags. Someone should direct you to where to go back through security and to your next gate.
Paulette
Leisha Wise choice, holidays should be about relaxation, that includes the getting there
Lynn
Should be ok
Hannah
Totally fine. If you're cutting it close, say delays, they will have someone fetch you. On our flight to PV before, it was delayed because of weather, they waited for us and had someone fetch us from our plane. We had to do power walking and running sometimes.
Paulette
Delays are different then tight bookings
Pat
No, not possible.....sorry.

Is an Hour Layover in San Francisco Enough?
Many travelers have had layovers in San Francisco while en route to their final destination. San Francisco International Airport (SFO) is a major hub for domestic and international flights, making it a common stopover for passengers.
In your case, flying from Vancouver (YVR) to Puerto Vallarta with a one-hour layover at SFO, it is important to consider a few factors to determine if one hour is enough time:
- Terminal Change: Depending on your airline and the terminals involved, you may need to change terminals during your layover. Be sure to check the airport map and plan accordingly.
- Security Check: Passing through security can sometimes be time-consuming, especially during peak travel times. Factor in the time it may take to clear security checkpoints.
- Distance between Gates: If your connecting flight is departing from a different concourse, you may need to allow extra time to walk or take a shuttle between gates.
- Flight Delays: Flight delays are common and can impact your layover time. Be prepared for unexpected delays and have a backup plan in place.
While one hour may seem tight for a layover, it is possible to make a quick connection at SFO if everything goes smoothly. However, it is always recommended to have a buffer of extra time in case of any unforeseen circumstances.
Ultimately, the decision on whether one hour is enough for your layover depends on your comfort level with potential risks and your familiarity with the airport. If you are concerned about making your connecting flight, you may want to consider booking a longer layover to allow for a more relaxed transfer.
Safe travels!

Has anybody ever had a layover in San Francisco ? Flight is YVR to Puerto Vallarta with an hour layover at SFO. Just wondering if an hour would be enough time ? Thanks
