We used airbnb in Japan this past summer. Travelling with a family it was nice to have more space than a hotel room and access to laundry. I would use airbnb again.
Tammy
Used airbnb in England, Wales and Barbados, had one issue with a property in Barbados but airbnb went above and exceeded expectations at offering a solution. Would highly recommend! Note- read reviews, and like anything, I think you get what you pay for...

We have used them several times in Los Angeles and Italy. I find it way more transparent and easy to use than vrbo. I also feel we had better quality options on airbnb for our budget. airbnb also does a great job of compelling reviews from renters and owners, which helps everyone be more informed. I think there's a lot of discretion by the owner what they ask for to book. We had owners ask us questions that we weren't comfortable answering in order to book, so we didn't book with them and found a different airbnb. It really wasn't a big deal. I should be clear that we read reviews carefully and only booked rentals that had a substantial number of reviews.

Each time I've had great experiences. From communication to the welcome and suggestions, the hosts have been great.
Crystal
I had a friend book thru them twice and both times they cancelled.
Linda
Used it in Venice. Brilliant! Great property and s cost effective option in an expensive city like Venice
Lisa
Thank you everyone for the feedback!
Tara
Keep your eye out for secret cameras.
Lisa
You found secret cameras at a lodging?
Tara
I've seen reports of it in the news.
Tara
Hotels are the same, I always check. But it's so much easier for people to get away with it when it's a private residence.
Lisa
Well then. I never thought of it. I've used vrbo for years and never gave it consideration. I guess I will be looking...
Tara
Can never be too careful, especially if you have children with you
Tara
Bathrooms and bedrooms are usually where they hide them.
Nicole
Never thought of that. And we've rented for 10 years at least. Ugh
Lori
We've used airbnb in the USA, Canada, three different cities in Germany, Paris (three months), Rome, Austria and we have Florence and corniglia booked upcoming. Always a good experience. We always book full home except once. We prefer the full home.

My Experience with Airbnb vs. VRBO and HomeAway
My Experience with Airbnb vs. VRBO and HomeAway
As an avid traveler, I've had the opportunity to use various vacation rental platforms, including Airbnb, VRBO, and HomeAway. While I have extensive experience with VRBO and HomeAway, I recently decided to give Airbnb a try, and I'm here to share my thoughts on how they compare.
Airbnb: A Closer Look
Airbnb has become a household name in the vacation rental industry, and for good reason. Their platform is user-friendly, and the selection of properties is vast. One thing I really appreciate about Airbnb is the ability to filter properties based on specific amenities, location, and price range. This makes it easier to find the perfect rental that meets your needs.
The booking process on Airbnb is straightforward, and the platform offers secure payment options. Additionally, Airbnb has a robust review system, allowing you to read feedback from previous guests before making a reservation. This transparency helps build trust and confidence in the properties you're considering.
One aspect that sets Airbnb apart is the unique experiences offered by some hosts. From local cooking classes to guided tours, Airbnb provides opportunities to immerse yourself in the local culture and create unforgettable memories.
VRBO and HomeAway: Trusted Vacation Rental Platforms
Having used VRBO and HomeAway extensively, I've developed a deep appreciation for their services. These platforms have been around for a long time and have built a solid reputation in the vacation rental industry.
One advantage of VRBO and HomeAway is the wide range of property types available, from cozy cabins to luxurious villas. The search filters on these platforms are comprehensive, allowing you to narrow down your options based on specific criteria, such as the number of bedrooms, amenities, and location.
Both VRBO and HomeAway offer secure payment options and have established customer support systems in place. Additionally, their review systems are robust, providing valuable insights from past guests to help you make an informed decision.
Policies and Property Quality
When it comes to policies and property quality, all three platforms have strict guidelines in place to ensure a positive experience for guests and hosts alike.
Airbnb has a comprehensive set of policies covering everything from cancellations to host responsibilities. They also have a dedicated team that vets properties to maintain quality standards. Similarly, VRBO and HomeAway have rigorous screening processes and clear policies to protect both guests and hosts.
In terms of property quality, I've generally had positive experiences with all three platforms. However, it's essential to read reviews carefully and communicate with hosts to ensure the property meets your expectations.
Final Thoughts
Overall, my experience with Airbnb has been excellent, and I would highly recommend it to anyone seeking a unique and personalized vacation rental experience. At the same time, VRBO and HomeAway continue to be trusted and reliable options,
