Which Greek island is perfect for young adults seeking beach fun and activities?

Question:

Planning a family trip with our 17&19 year old. Three weeks in total and we fly into Barcelona and then straight to Venice (2 nights). Train down to Florence, Rome and Naples for 2 nights at each possibly. Then flying to a Greek island for 7 nights. Other than the museums and historic buildings in Italy I’m looking for cool fun things to do. Places to eat, places to stay. Also, what is the best Greek island for young adults with a great beach, a bit of activity during the day… See more

Spend more than 2 nights in your chosen Italian cities ... 2 nights is so stressful and exhausting! You’ll be wishing you had more time at each place!

Keddy so i feel that I need to go to Venice and Naples area because we need to go to island if Capri because my daughters name is Capri. Florence is suppose to go great but is it right not to go to Rome if u go to Italy! Ugh.

Fewer cities/More time per city. You're not experiencing anything in a two-day drive by.

Michelle I totally understand feeling like you need to do everything - that’s how I felt my first trip to Europe! - but Rome and Florence aren’t going anywhere!! You will truly thank yourself for spending a little more time in each spot. All the spots are great and you will have a magnificent time no matter what city you go. What you “miss” in one city, you will make up for in better adventures, and more rest/exploring time somewhere else!

On a 2 night agenda, you really only get a half day where you’re finding/settling into your accommodation, 1 full day in the city, and then you’re checking out and hopping on another train... only to repeat the cycle! It’s so draining! (But also possible - I’ve done it, and seen a lot of cities that way
). Just something to think about!!

Keddy your info is really helpful. So would 2 days in Venice (because of jet lag) 3 - Florence and 3 - amaufi coast? Then we head to a Greek island (Naxos) I think for one week. End with 3 days in Barcelona. Totally take Rome out.

Skip Venice. Go to Rome. They're both beautiful, but Venice is small by comparison and therefore suffers way more from overtourism, ie there are more tourists there than Italians. Rome is big enough to actually lose yourself among the locals.

Michelle I think it would make it easier on you all, for sure! Make sure you have detailed plans of how you’re getting to your accommodation in Venice ... because you WILL get lost haha. Lots of maps and Italian phrasebook! You will want to get to your place as easily as possible after getting off the plane!
Also, I got bedbugs in Venice. Check all your mattresses under the sheets!

Michelle feel free to message me if you’d like any more specific recommendations, I’ve done a ton of traveling in Europe!

Keddy hi. Have u been to sorrento. Any good recommendations for accommodation.

Michelle unfortunately no! I’m always a big fan of airbnb though. Just check that anywhere you stay has air conditioning and Wifi! And, unless you are renting a car, try to get a place somewhere reasonably close to a train station.

Keddy ok. Thx. I think we’re still too busy but itinerary doesn’t allow for much change.

Mykonos, rent a car and drive any roads that lead to water. We did this and had a blast, swam in 6 different areas. Take goggles for marine life viewing.

We did a 24 day trip last summer and we needed at least 3 nights in each place. You will not want to rush. Chose less places and stay longer and enjoy!! We loved Florence and Venice and Rome and Sorrento and Cinque Terre and Pisa!!

There's many things around Naples but if you aren't there for long you'll have to choose between making day trips or staying in the city. I can make some suggestions depending on what your schedule can accommodate or what you prefer to do as I lived in Naples for 2-3 years
